Don't worry about it, I'll add you to the list. *will do that now before she forgets*

Ok, you're added. I decided to just use outlook for the mailing list instead of depending on an outside source. So, prepare yourself for spam! Ok..one short email everyon once in a while, but it's somethign! LOL!

So, was anyone here on the original wotism mailinglist before the bboard? There was a HUGE amount of traffic on it, and it was really cool. Though I think some people were a little fed up because they were getting too much mail. Eventually we decided to use the mailinglist just for announcements, and we started the bboard. Though I don't know which came first.
Jacob

I was on the original mailing list...but I think that you just showed that I wasn't AS much a vet as I like to think...

I didn't "come onboard" until it was just a mailing list for updates and such. Not that there came that many updates after a while...but I guess it's hard...after all, what to say on those...
nato
24th June 2001, 21:02
damn, jacob, you're vet enough. I think you're probably the oldest vet still active in the wotism community, unless Enarra is still around somewhere. But I don't even know that she was on the original mailinglist. And then there was the chat, too. I don't think anyone really carried over from one to the other in the beginning of any of em. They all were fairly seperate entities. And, we'd all love you even if you were a newbie. Just not as much. :-p
Drew

Umm yeah Nato, I think Enarra is still around... The rest of us just aren't around as much anymore.
nato
25th June 2001, 14:38
hmmm. I wish I didn't have time for this. But I do. So I'm here. Cause I have nothing better to do w/ myself. Actually, I probably do. But I'd rather waste my life, apparently. :-P I'm gonna tell everyone I know that I've found this great site called "wotism". heh.
Jacob
25th June 2001, 19:56
I guess if you say so, I'm vet enough, Nato:) LOL! I wish I had more time to waste too...but a week another two weeks and it's vacation baby! (no, I don't mean "baby" as you you being my baby...whoever you are that reads this...almost)

And I suppose I might be...maybe I should go see if I can find Evan to pester? Doesn't quite seem the same without him...and Maybe Rallan...because there SHOULD be a "funky" thrown into the debates every now and again....

I don't think I'm on the mailing list!
I don't think I'm on the list either...

And Jacob, am I an older vet than you?

I would've started in... '97?

Wow... I'm OLD... funny how life does that to a person...
Jean
30th June 2001, 23:03
I think I have both of you on the list...*checks* Yep, you're both there. Sol, I have you home.com email and gwinna, I use your wotmania email. I don't send out things very often...only 2 "updates" so far, we're only a month old after all. Maybe I should send out a test email and get everyone to reply to it to make sure it's going through.

I can post the things in the updates here, just in case someone misses them.
Jacob MIGHT be an older vet than you...then again, it could be the other way around. You did both come around the same time, I think. I don't wanna make either of you feel inadaquate by proclaiming one of you more vet than the other. :-p I guess we'll never know! Or at least not now. You guys could always fight for the honor. That'd be more entertaining than actually looking through the archives.
GWINNA
1st July 2001, 15:41
Ok, I'm on the list. I wasn't sure. I just didn't want to be left out.
Going through the Archives would only prove one thing:

I am the originator of the "Min is a *Finn" theory.

PS: You know she is....
Jacob
2nd July 2001, 19:11
Nah, I was a member of wotism before you, Sol:) If I remember correctly, I was member number 670 and you member 692....

Still, that leaves ALOT of people ahead of us. But I've always suspected some foul play or something there, because 98% of those people on the list had never ever posted on the board! Oh, okay, maybe not foul play...but if they didn't ever post on the board, they weren't really "real" wotists. Atleast that's what I think:)

You,I, Curtis and Darius all showed up within a two week period, I think.

Yeah, but I was posting long before I signed up for a number.

Besides, 702 has a specific meaning (besides Wotism.org Registration) for me.

Darius... Solluman...

Ah yes... You accused me and whoever that was of being one and the same.

I have used many pseudos over the ages (hehehe), but that is not one of them.
Well, y'know jacob, the board wasn't there when wotism started. And neither was the chat for that matter. So all those people came, saw the site, signed up, maybe some of them were on the mailinglist, though I don't remember when that came about, and left cause all they saw was a static page. Once the chat came about there were probably more regulars, but not nearly as many as when the bboard started. You say those lucky souls, those pioneers on the wotism frontier, aren't real wotists, when really they were just not as fortunate as you were to have such lovely luxuries like bboards. Shame on you!
Jacob
3rd July 2001, 12:15
I accused you of being Darius Solluman?! That must have been in one of your dreams, Sol In fact, you were one of those misscredants that used a whole bunch of pseudo's without me even suspecting! I do wish that we could get that notorious typoist Darisu to this board though Oh, and I was lurking on the board long before posting too...and I had to join twice (second time two month later) because the first time got lost or something. So...I guess that we will never REALLY know who of us was there first then, but I can take that:)

And Shame On Me, Nato? Do I have to?

P.S. This wotist have noticed that some wotmaniacs are speculating about trying to cruise in and get the wotism.org domain when it's released....GRRRRR!!!!
Got some ace up your sleve that I don't know about?? I.e. about how to "get it back" before it's released to the market again? I know a few people that talked about way's to do that...but I can't remember how it was supposed to be done...I'd have to check it out. But by all means, if you can get it first, that would be for the best I'd say:)

Well, uh, I was thinking we'd just renew it. We do have that option, I believe...but I spose I could be wrong. Mike's the one who dealt w/ that. You make it sound like there are people waiting like vultures to snap it up...
Jacob
5th July 2001, 08:01
I don't think that you can just re-new it, Nathan The "grace period" has already passed (60 days?) and the domain is basically up for grabs as soon as networksoluions releases it in the very near future.

And of course there'd be vultures! It's one of the "Legendary" Wheel of Time domains and it's still got some very favorable listings in search engines and all that. I would think that there would be a fair deal of free traffic from that.

wait. . .if Nato's number 2. . .then who's number 1? Original Mike (no offense Dutch Mike)? then does Nato still qualify as creator? and it doesn't seem to me that O. Mike is playing a very active role as a wotist. . .so wouldn't that leave creator status firmly in the hands of Nato. . .hmm. . .methinks i'm thinking out loud. . .so to speak anyway. . .as is looks like JoJo wins for oldest vet. . .i don't even know if i ever made it onto the list. . .i could never find my name or anything. . . .somewhere in the upper thousands i would assume. . . .methinks i lose the vet contest. . .hey do i even QUALIFY as a vet at this point??

thank you for the recognition shadow, finally a little respect. of course, i am not listed under "JoJo the Circus Monkey" on that list, but as my real name. later, when i adopted JoJo, i signed up again to get ti on there, but i dont know if it ever got up. if so, "JoJo" must have been like # 16,785 or something.

Mike is number one on the list of wotists cause he's the one who made the original list of wotists, not because he's any more creator than I am. Wotism is both of ours. He tended to do more of the behind the scenes work than I did, and I did more of the day to day stuff. Really we're both number one.

And, I'm appalled that a circus monkey ranks higher on the list of wotists than Jacob or Sol. :-p But, JoJo, if you were on the original mailinglist, you're a damn badass circus monkey.

i still didn't get an answer to my query. . .what qualifies one as a vet?
nato
30th July 2001, 01:52
uh, there is no qualification. It's completely arbitrary. Look at me, I'm a vet! vet vet vet. Honey, I think you should take the dog to the vet, he's looking quite poorly.

Well, you get the idea. It's not like people sudenly become vetified after a certain length of time. More like once they gain a certain amount of stature in the community by posting for a while and acting like they're hot shit then they get to be recognized as a vet. Uh oh. I gave it away...
Jacob
30th July 2001, 16:43
I guess Nathan said it...once the other oldtimers think you a vet, you're a vet...
JoJo
30th July 2001, 22:05
as the super-vet, i have sole power in proclaiming vet-status upon others. to be considered in my vet proclamations, you must relinquish to me 5 young virgins. however, shadow, if you even want a chance at vetness, i would suggest at least 15 virgins - and hot ones too.

see? thats how to become a vet.

Mailing list puts you name on a list so when the Admins get around to it can send you an update newsletter about WOT and WOTISM. Since the birth of the site, we have had 2, but considering that the Admins are doing things out of the kindness of their hearts and Jean has suffered a great loss recently, I don't think it is that important. Sign up for it if you want.
While I'm on the subject do you guys need any help? Let me know if I can contribute something(although not money right now).

The mailing list and the email notifications you get are separate things. Those notifications can be turned on and off.
When you click on the "user cp" button above, and choose "edit options", then you'll see a page with a whole lot of yes/no options.
One of them controls whether you want to be notified when someone posts a message in a thread you posted in: "Use 'Email Notification' by default?"
The default options is Yes. Just set it to No if it bothers you (and the more you post around, the more notifications you'll get.)
If later you'd like to get notifications for a certain thread, then there's always the "subscribe to this thread" option. Click that, and once someone posts in that thread you get spammed by us again, totally free of charge of course :D
And help is always appreciated. Finding news stuff and such is difficult. There isn't that much news to go with in the first place, so anything anybody can dig up is most welcome.
We're already working on some "nifty" stuff (to use Jacobian terms), but the succes of it depends on a good news rate, hehe. And we need to get in final, but essential part. I haven't got that one working yet, but I'm so close, I can actually see the light at the end of the Way

Not that I mind getting the notifications (my email is pretty dead most of the time). So it's not really necessary to sign up for the mailing list (not that I know how)? I suppose I can catch up on any news by Delving into this site, hmm?
