View Full Version : Not quite fresh Theory, but nonetheless...

I guess a,lot of our newer wotists haven't ever heard some of the older, and crazier theories, so why not freshen them up a bit?

Here's my contribution:

I we assume that Jordan is showing a future earth as his world. Then where might the Ogier have come from? We have a mythological creature, which (it is told) is roughly humanoid, big, hairy and seems to hang around near big trees (Oregon, Washington - Redwoods). I'm talking about Bigfoot.

So...non-regarding the fact, that Bigfoot is probably a hoax, might it have been Jordans inspiration for the Ogier?

I don't know. There are a lot of big hairy humanoid mythical creatures, and the forest is the place where mythical creatures are generally encountered.

Actaul considering that in the Wheel of Time time is circular The Third age is both our future and our past and thus is the source and result of legends and myths. It seem unlikly that the oiger are Bigfoot but the reverse might be true. An interesting thing is that the stedding blocks channeling and that ogier can't channel. Since the guide stated that ogier are indigenous to earth, it seems likly that the ogier are an evolved species based on genetic reseach on humans(similar to trollocs but without the evil and other such things)

or, it could be that oger's became extinct,or that they are a massive genetic mutation!

GWINNA

even if they became extinct they would have to resurface in another age somehow. However a massive mutation is a good Idea.

well with all the finding of frozen mammoths and people thinking about using genetic engineering to recreate them just cuz they can. . . .what if in a future age, or a later stage of this one, someone found a frozen ogier. . .cloned it and boom. . .extinction is over. . .no more need for massive mutation. . .and since the third age is both past and future the ogier must be out there in antactica somewhere. . . .so who's for an expidition ?

I think it's more like an Earth where humans have supernatural powers eg. channeling, speaking with wolves, Dreaming, entering Tel'aran'rhiod at will etc. Ogier seem to be indigenous, but the Nym & chora trees are not. And the way things are going now, I think the future will be more like Tarmon Gaidon than the Age of Legends.

Does this mean that someone had created Trollocs in a previous age before Aginor? Do you think we take this turning of the wheel a little too litteral? What I mean is I don't think every little thing "resurfaces" in the next/past ages, etc. It's probably more general in terms of the rise and fall of civilization, battle with the dark one, dragon, etc.

I tend to agree with NOuse. I don't see the whole wheel thing as literal, more like the rise and fall of the civilisations. The world was much more advanced two thousand years ago than it was one thousand years ago and much more civilised during the age of legends than after the breaking. I see our time as the first age, the age of legends as the second and post breaking as the third. There are enough pointers in the books to the present being Rand's past.

And yes, bigfoot may have been part of Jordan's inspiration, but you would have to ask him that.

... or perhaps a parallel reality...hmmm ... what if RJ considers our world to be one of the many parallel worlds that one can access throught the portal stones ?

Sounds like a bad episode of that older(well not old) show Sliders. Anyone ever thought RJ looks like an old Mat Cauthon with that hat he's got on?

Often a writer will create a character based on the way they see themselves. Maybe RJ likes to think he's a bit like Mat.

Actually I think RJ considers himself a lot like Lan.

I just had a thought about Ogier though- this could result in a Theory. :) What if the Steddings are places where the pattern is thinner, similar to Shayol Ghul, except that instead of giving access to the Dark One, it gives access to the Creator, and/or a more direct access to the One Power than merely channelling. Channelling doesn't work there because the way in which one senses the True Source in the Stedding is altered- you can't sense it in the way that channellers can, because it is accessed in a completely different way.

minor correction, rj WANTS to be like lan ---snickers--

hmm...if rj sees himself like lan...does that mean his wife is like nynaeve? poor poor man...

* thinks about it * ummmm well... What's wrong with nynaeve? I don't think Nynaeve is a bad person... as long as you are not a subject to her . I mean ... oh well... * check his pulse , checks his forehead * uhh I think I got a fever ... But I still insist that there's nothing wrong with Nynaeve... * looks around * ok, I stop it... * mutters to himself * just my personal opinion... * walks away *

actually...and maybe this is distance from the books, having not read them in a while...but i seem to recall nynaeve getting much better to handle lately...lan must be pretty incredible in bed...

He's a lean big fighting machine. He probably drives her all night long. Probably equipped at birth with a killer cock too. :p

Probably true, considering how Nynaeve behaves after marriage, & her besotted devotion to him.
