Here's the offical press release from newsarama (http://www.newsarama.com/)

DB Production adds adaptation of acclaimed bestselling author Robert Jordan’s forthcoming “A New Spring” to its already impressive spring lineup.

Robert Silverberg. Tad Williams. Raymond E. Feist. George R. R. Martin. Robert Jordan.

Dabel Brothers Production (DB Pro) confirmed today that they have secured the rights to adapt New York Times Bestselling author Robert Jordan’s beloved “Wheel of Time” series into comic book / graphic novel format. The series will begin with Jordan’s forthcoming novel, A New Spring, a prequel to The Eye of the World, the original starting point in the epic series.

“Robert Jordan is, without question, one of the biggest names in fantasy today,” said Ernst Dabel, President and Editor-in-Chief for DB Production. “We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to bring his work to life, and we know this will probably be one of the biggest series of 2004.”

“The buzz around this book has already been enormous,” said Sean J. Jordan, Managing Editor for DB Pro. “Earlier this week, rumors surfaced that an artist had already been signed, and some character drawings were leaked and shown all over the Internet. While I officially deny that the artist who produced those drawings has signed onto the project – the artwork in question was meant for internal use only – we are talking to some top-notch talent to work on this book. We’ll offer more details when they’ve available, but suffice it to say that this book will probably be one of the most anticipated titles of the year once we announce who’s working on it.”

The Wheel of Time: A New Spring (working title) will released on a monthly basis through Devil’s Due Publishing and will be available for solicitation through Diamond Comic Distributors, Inc. The novel A New Spring will be available in January, 2004 at major booksellers everywhere. More information about The Wheel of Time, DB Production and other projects can be found at http://www.dabelbrothers.com

Have you seen the artwork that was "leaked", it is very good.

Jean

Actually I have seen one, and I saved it. It's just a pencil sketch though, but I'll share it. :)

wow. that is absolutely incredible. Why does that Aiel have a sword though?

radarofpolo
3rd February 2004, 00:33
its called "X-tra heavy dagger". just happens to look like a swordy.

Jacob
3rd February 2004, 16:40
What sword? The thing on his back is supposed to be the casing with the spare spears and all that I think.

I did see this other sketch with a warder or whatever wearing an extra pansy sword (rapier) though. Don't know about that.

What's with the half exposed breasts. I don't remeber that from the books

Oh and the Pansy looks like he's from Tear, maybe.

Jean
3rd February 2004, 17:29
I sure hope that's not suppose to be Nynaeve with the half exposed breasts.

hehe @ the warder in pantaloons.

lan sam
3rd February 2004, 23:27
hehe. He'd look so cool if he wasn't dressed like a pansy.

Guys like to draw women half naked or naked or write about them half naked or naked.

Iknow that Amelia, I am a guy afterall.

but the only half naked women in WOT were Graendal and teh seanchan servants.

"Doh" I guess that could be Graendal. :umm: :D

first, any warder (it that is one) with a sword that pansy deservers to be beaten. also it looks more like one of those petty lordlings that always seem to keep showing up.

second, i dont know what spear holders look like, though that thing on the aiel's does look like the hilt of something rather than a quiver/holdythingi for something.

awww poor Image comics!! First they lost Hedge Knight to Devils Due and now New Spring! Cause I know they were annoucing that they would be doing it at first....

Hrrm does anyone know the penciller, and inker yet?? I know the style but the name doesn't ring any bells. Also is Jordan going to adapt it for the comic book or are there others doing that?? When is it solicited for?

Sorry... things comic book related are exciting to me! :)
*collected Hedge Knight and is still waiting for issue 3 that is supposed to come out from DD*

I agree with Radar- looks more like a Tear-an Lordling, not a warder...way too grandiose...but damn, no matter who he is, What a pansy!

and as for the half exposed breasts...well, thats about how i picture the entire WoT realm, so as far as i can tell, its a GREAT picture. :)

Ahhh boobies... they make the world go round... hehe is there anything they CAN'T do??

Oh yes and for anyone besides me who cares, after carefully judging the art on the previews shown I have determined by style and by name that the artist is Andrea DiVito, he's a Crossgen penciller. Did a few 'The First' issues, as well as 'Brath' not too bad... but apparently he makes warders a bit on the poncy side.... ahh well... as long as he keeps churning those busty women out???

hah sure to make the book a success ;)

and what do we call those books? oh yeah, bestsellers :D

Buckweet
8th February 2004, 23:10
Hmmm yea that definitely isnt any spear holder. Aiel hold spare spears in the other hand along with the shield. You can see the start of the blade in the picture. It definitely is short swordish. Note the word sword. But the artist who did it probably didnt know the WoT details.... oy they better fix that.

I to think the guy is from Tear. Look at the poiny beard.
What does "pansy" means? I mean, I´m sure he looks pansy, but I don´t know what it is. Like the women thoug.

Byrn

Pansy is the oppisite of Macho.

Dragonmount has been sent some images of characters from the comic books. You can take a look at them here:

The pics are OK. I like the trolloc and the aiel but Lan an Moirane arent what I picture in my head but I guess RJ approved them so who am I to argue?

Beowulf
2nd April 2004, 12:35
Moiraine is totally boring, I think Lan looks pretty cool. Just remember Moiraine was not 100% what we knew her as. She was still barely a woman then.

Well as long as she's short and hot, thats all that realy matters.

Beowulf
2nd April 2004, 12:40
But she isn't. She's fairly nondescript.

Been meaning to post this, mostly for reference, but this is the offical comic webiste: http://www.dabelbrothers.com/newspring/newspring.php

They have character images, wallpaper, and they will have synopsis of the coming issues.

They've also released a new picture of Cadsuane.

Beowulf
18th April 2004, 13:22
Cadsuane looks good, except for her hair ornament, which I envisioned as looking less like a pin cushion and a bit more stylish. :dozey:

Amelia Sedai
18th April 2004, 20:39
I pictured the bun in the back of the head and the ornament kinda like a bun stick with the ornaments hanging off of one stick.

Warder Trained
19th April 2004, 00:45
Hmm... I wasn't really paying that much attention to their physical descriptions at that point, but somehow I always thought of Cadsuane as sorta plump. Ah well. I guess not.

As for the lady with the half exposed boobies... maybe it's Isendre in a wig.

Malith Terman
29th April 2004, 13:29
Look at the position Cadsuane's hand is in. Does anyone else think that is physically impossible. I mean, maybe she's just incredibly flexible....but it is still a nice pic.

now, back to your regularly scheduled boobies.

I think its slightly odd...just a minor alteration to the picture and it'd be alright...

and since when does Lan wear a helm? and Moirane has curly hair (says so in book one). grrr

lan sam

After hours of trying to do Cadsuane's hand postition (no not really Sonic) I deem it impossible. I do have one friend that can do that, but he can only do it with all of his fingers at one time.

Hand? What about her head? Dose she eat leaves off trees? It's a good start but needs work, IMO.

Of course, it's better than anything I can draw, so I should not criticize too harshly. But, damn, Cadsuane phone home!

Mazrim_Taim
17th March 2005, 12:16
Actually, a rapier is very deadly in the right hands. And it definitely looks like a Tairen, high lord or whatever. And I don't think the sword is pansy, most likely it's a ceremonial sword just to look good. That's what I'm thinkin...
Edit: on the Tairen lord picture on the first page

Dragon Man
21st March 2005, 02:07
ok, my opinion on the Aiel on the front page, I think that thing on his back is either a sword, as most people seem to think, or, it could be his bow.

Hey, the first comic is already available. You can order them with a subscription and will recieve one per month. I am stationed on the DMZ in Korea and I have already received the first one and I think it is fantastic and can't wait for the next few. If anyone wants to order them, I would check out the Red Eagle site.

K……. I’ve read the first five releases and they are pretty good. I think they managed to put all the important details together and transfer them on comic well. Well……. I didn’t picture Moiraine like that and the White Tower could be bigger, but ok.

PS: any news on new releases?

I thought I had already posted this news when it came but I guess I didn't.

Dear Fans of the New Spring Comic:

We hope that you have enjoyed our past issues of Robert Jordan’s New Spring
comic series. However, we have some important news to share with you
concerning the future availability of this publication. As you may know, Red
Eagle Entertainment is the publisher of New Spring, and is responsible for the
printing and distribution of each issue.

The actual production of the New Spring comic series has been overseen by
Dabel Brothers Production (DB Pro), who is responsible for the preparation of
each issue, along with a team of independent artists, writers and colorists that
they hire, supervise and manage.

From the beginning, New Spring has been beset by a series of production
setbacks. Despite repeated efforts by DB Pro to manage these problems, the
production delays have continued unabated and Red Eagle did not receive Issue
No. 6 when due. Moreover, all availability targets for the remaining issues in the
New Spring series have been missed. In addition, there have been major
changes in the creative team over the past months, causing increased effort to
maintain a consistent and quality look for the series.

As the publisher of New Spring, we sincerely apologize for all of these past
delays. Red Eagle has been acutely sensitive to all of the concerns voiced by
our direct subscribers, as well as by our retail customers, local comic shops and
Diamond Comics, our U.S. distributor for New Spring.

We agree that these accumulated delays have become unacceptable. However,
our contract for the publication of New Spring does not give Red Eagle the right
to complete the New Spring series on its own or in tandem with another
production partner. Moreover, our repeated efforts to reach a meaningful
solution with DB Pro have been unsuccessful, as have our discussions with a
representative of Robert Jordan.

With no reasonable alternative available, and after considerable reflection, Red
Eagle is reluctantly announcing it will cease the publication of New Spring. While
the cancellation of this comic series is a major disappointment for Red Eagle, our
real concern is for the many fans around the world that will be deprived of the
experience of reading the final installments of the New Spring story.

We truly regret that we are unable to finish the New Spring comic series.
Although future events are outside of our control, we remain open to any change
in circumstances that may one day permit Red Eagle to complete the New Spring
comic at the standards of quality and punctuality that fans of the series deserve.

We thank you for your understanding.

Sincerely,

Red Eagle Entertainment

Dabel brothers announced that they - holding the licence for the comic until december - would seek an extention of that licence and countinue this project on their own. I wouldn't buy any of the (comic book) issues out now though considering how unlikely it seems that they'll succeed.

/Jacob
