Ok, I have been looking to buy The History of Middle Earth books for ages now.
1. The Book of Lost Tales, Part One ( I )
2. The Book of Lost Tales, Part Two II
3. The Lays of Beleriand III
4. The Shaping of Middle-Earth IV
5. The Lost Road and Other Writings V
6. The Return of the Shadow VI
7. The Treason of Isengard VII
8. The War of the Ring VIII
9. Sauron Defeated IX
10. Morgoth’s Ring
11. The War of the Jewels
12. The Peoples of Middle-Earth
Now, to buy each of them seperately from Australia, the cheapest I have found has them all priced at more than $500
Now, being an unemployed 15 year old I can't afford this.
But I have heard there has been - newly published - a 3 book set which contains all of these.
I have searched this, and found said books (the black boxed ones), but it doesn't say if it is actually the same text as the above books.
So can does anyone know?

These books that u r looking for were not written by J.R.R. himself rather his son. and I don't think u want to read any but the silmarrilion and the b3 books of lost tales, because I HAVE and im sure u would be rather peeeved at them....It may ruin the series for u cos his son like murders the whole thing ewww

The Histories are for people who really, really want to get in depth, there is a lot to take in, its all of JRR Tolkien's notes put into 12 Books, his letters are recorded in The Letters of JRR Tolkien

Have you checked Amazon's used prices, or Ebay? You could probably get all of those for no more than than 100 bucks on Ebay.

As far as I know all those books have been reprinted and reprinted.. and if they are over 500 they are prolly older and perhaps First Ed's of a republishing... so yeah....
I checked Amazon.com for all them... and they seem to all be 20$ a piece there... so if you can swipe a parents credit card there ya go :)

The boxed sets don't have all the books, though, and they are usually around $30 USD for a new set in a store or online.
These books that u r looking for were not written by J.R.R. himself rather his son.
They were compiled and edited by his son, I thought.

They are compiled by his son and unless you're looking for a degree in Advanced Tolkien Studies, they probably aren't worth the time or money. They are good reads, yes, but I'd start with the Book of Lost Tales.
While you're at it, learn quenya. Builds character.
