The fifth book of the The Dark Tower series, Wolves of the Calla, is now available. The next book in the series will be released this summer, followed by the final volume next November. It's nice to see a series finish up in a reasonable time. :D

Thanks to B for telling me about the series. :)

Ha I was going to post in absnot about it... But then I came and saw this so I can post it here, a friend let me borrow the copy he got for his birthday last week.

He's not planning to read it until he goes to TX sometime mid-December, so I get to read it. I'm lucky because I've been spending all my money on a hobby and woudn't have otherwise had a chance to read it so soon. Hurrah!

edit: and actually stephen king has taken a lot of time to finish this series. this latest book has been a fairly long time coming, but it's quite nice to finally have it. :)

He's making up for it by releasing the last three books in such quick succession. :D You are right, however, besides the fact that the fourth was a while in coming, he actually started writing the first book of this series--The Gunslinger--over fourty years ago. When it comes to taking oodles of time to write something, Stephen King beats the hell out of Robert Jordan in this particular instance.

I'm happy the fifth book is coming out! Dark Tower is one of my favorite series. I, however, am re-reading another of my favorite series, coincidently The Wheel of Time by some guy named Bob. After that I have about ten new books to read, due to presents/my excessive spending. What I'm trying to say here is I'm not going to be able to get around to reading Wolves of the Calla for a while, which sucks.

Oh well, maybe by the time I'm ready to read it the last two will be out.

[random nonsense] Isn't it a weird coincidence how The Dark Tower series is going to end up having seven books while the Harry Potter series is going to consist of the same number, when all is said and done? Maybe it's because the two have nothing to do with each other. [/random nonsense]

bah, I heard the 5th one was out but I never even finished the 4th. It was soooo boring! I didn't get more than 150 pages in I don't think.

I've never read one Stephen King book. But I've been itching to. After seeing Dreamcatcher and the Green Mile(again) I really think I should. Would the Dark Tower be a good place to start?

I'm not sure if it would be a good place to start, but I can say the darktower series does kind of bring all of his other books together by incorporating various characters and elements.

I think the Darktower is like something that binds and defines its universe, and in the same way it does as much for all of his written work. If you're a fan you might enjoy noticing all the little connections things have to his other books, but I think even if you're not there's something to enjoy in it.

I like it because it's hard to pin it down into a single genre. It's somewhat sci-fi, somewhat fantasy, somewhat contempary, somewhat old west. It really has a unique flavor.
