View Full Version : A Spanking New Theory About the Nine Moons! :)

And don't someone dare say that it's been discussed on the old board!

In TDR, early on, Moraine talks to Perrin (with Min and Lan present) about the prophesies. One thing she says is "what does it mean that he will chain the nine moons to him mean?" or atleast something very similar.

Let's travel on...

In TSR, Nynaeve talks to Moghedien and Moghedien tells her about the male adam. About why it's not much use really. She says that it doesn't really work as a female A' dam. Rather, it's an A'dam that works both ways, binding the woman (or women) to the man as much as the man to the woman/women.

Present WoT Time...

Tuon, the Daughter of The NINE MOONS has possesion of this male A'dam and plans to use it to controll the Dragon Reborn. Tuon is Sul'dam and from reading Winters Heart, I read out that she intends to be the one to personally put the male A'dam on the Dragon Reborn. Which would put her on the other end. The Nine Moons bound to the Dragon Reborn!
TaTa!

What does that have to do with spanking?

You got me all hot-and-bothered for nothing.

Well, I'd think it was pretty obvious. I mean, leashes and collars and all that parephenalia could easily lead to spanking and other kinky activities.

Sol, please come (no pun intended) to the Orgy. You have a dirty enough mind for it and we need more posts. *g*

Hmmmm....that would be an interesting little twist....a'dam used for sexual purposes...wait, no, that would be highly disturbing.

Well, I'd say there's already a sort of psychosexual nature to the a'dam, as it is. RJ just hasn't been explicit about it (yet).

Yes you may, just be sure that there is no respect in your voice as you mention that name...

I always figured that the Male adam tied into the severed hand in both Rand's and Elayne's veiwings by Min taking it to mean that rand will be collared and Elayne will have to lop off someone's hand to free him.

Can't it just be some reference to The Band of the Red Hand (and Mat) somehow though? I mean, their symbol is a severed hand of sorts, isn't it?? (it's a hand and it's red...)

don't worry, absolutely no respect! (bloody horn dog!)

hm that's a good point jacob. . . .might mean the band of the red hand. . . .but i think it makes more sense with GWINNA's idea. . .it's a SEVERED hand. . . .i think Min can tell the difference between a Red Hand and a Severed hand. . . .

and as for a'dam sex. . . .uhh. . .a device that basically gives you control over a person. . . .doesn't that kinda smell of rape??

Talk about reviving old threads!
Have I just broken a record?

Anyway, this has surfaced in another thread lately, I think it was vanidar's, and this offers some background, so I dug it up. My personal opinion is that if there is to be some chopping of limbs of main characters, it will probably be one of the bad guys, or in this case bad girls. And since all the men are too weak-hearted to do it, and elayne is involved somhow, I think Elayne will cut off the hand of Semirhage (Anath), who goes after Mat in the next book, and has access to male a'dam, just as rand launches assault on seanchan in Ebou Dar.

eat that!

I don't know about this one though, It say's he'll"chain the nine moons to him". That sound hil hell be the one in control not the other person holding the leash. This also makes since since when once when Rahvin spoke of bonding with Lanfear he said that he would be in control of the link.

There are two different interpretations to the prophiecy that Rand must "Bind the Nine Moons to him"

Toun, I think, says that this prophiecy reads that the Dragon Reborn must "Kneel before the Throne of Nine Moons"

So it could be a Seanchean in control

Maybe it will end up being a dual control of Randland: Rand controls one half at the minute while the Seanchan control the other (omitting the boarderlands). The Seanchan were suposed to be a tool Ish created to ravage Randland just before the Last Battle thus leaving a weakened force to fight the Trolloc hords.

Rand cannot afford a war with the Seanchan so enters the prophecy of Mat lossing an eye to save half the world - half of Randland - Mat will play a huge roll in the binding of the Nine Moons and the salvation of Randland.

Ok, Ok! So that was obvious. But I find a lot that is said here is as plain as the nose on your face. ;)

Not that that is a bad thing; sometimes you need to state the obvious to move on.

Just a question that popped into my head...

Do the Seanchan have their own "messiah-type" prophecy?
I mean...every other group seems to...
Also, seeing how the roots of the Seanchan empire are in Randland, would the Dragon mean anything to them?

Pope Trevor

The Seanchan belive in the Dragon as well. This is natural, 'cause the leaders of Seanchan came from Randland originally, and probably kept many of the same proficies.

There are also references to the Proficies by Tuon, I think. They interpret some of the passages differently, though.

For ex, they interpretted "He must bind the Nine Moons to him" to "He must kneel before the Nine Moons"
