How come every time I wait months or years for a book in a series for a series to come out they always suck. This first started with the Wheel Of Time. I started reading it in '97 my senior year of high School. At the Time books 1-7 where out. All of which left me well satisfied and eager for the next one. I waited 2 years till Path of Daggers came out. Only to be dissappointed, next came Winter's Heart another disappointment, then came Crossroads of Twilight and yet another Disappoinment.
But it's not just limited to the Wheel of Time, while waiting for the next bookout comes I started reading the Sword of Truth. I was please the day Temple of Winds came out, till I read it atleast, then came Soul of Fire and another letdown, with low expectation's I picked up Faith of the Fallen, and low and behold it was really good. As good as it had been in the beginning of the series. I was eager and read the day Pillar's of Creation came out, only to be crushed but the total emptyness of it. The Latest Naked empire? Nothin special.
I also a series called The Book of Words by J.V. Jones It was very well written with some interesting Characters. One main hero and one main villian. I read the first two and it was obvious that the hero and the villian would have a huge showdown in the end. When the book came out I took it home and read eagerly for hours. Only to be letdown by a horrible anticlimatic battle that just ruined the whole series.
Last and Definately not least the Famos Harry Potter. I pick it up out of Shear boredom and found myself like it. While it was kind of childish, I knew it was for a younger crowd but could still apreciate the quality of the writting. The books just kept getting better and more mature as they went on. By the end of the 4th book I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. Only to be horribly disappointed by it. How can some one who went through all the thing that Harry went through and never back down become such a whining cry baby all of a sudden. Let down again.
The only exception has been The Song of Fire and Ice by George R.R. Martin. It gotten better and better through the 3 books that have come out. I haven't heard any thing about his latest one but i hope it Remain the exception.
