okay, i havent seen anything about Melanie Rawn's books on here, and, tho i read them a while back, i remember that they were good, so....if anyone's read them, say something, and if not i reccomend reading them.
i havent read all of them, but i have read:
the dragon prince series
the dragon star series
the exiles series (at least what's out thus far)

I've read all of them, and thought they were all excellent, though one you didn't mention was a book she did Jennifer Roberson and Kate Elliott called The Golden Key, also very good too. There's a sequel to that called The Diviner that she's suppose to be working on. My favortie is her Exiles trilogy, and I've been waiting for her to write the last book in that series for 6 years now. :( I've become very good at patiently waiting. lol

i've never actually had a chance to read the golden key, tho i've wanted to many times, its never at 1/2 price books and i have no money to buy it full price, but i think i may go look for it again. posting this has reminded me how much i've enjoyed reading her books.
oh, and i know what you're sayin bout the waiting for the next exiles, 's been about the same amt of waiting for me as well, i wonder what ever happened to that adn if she's still trying to write it...i don't think it took this long for any of her other stuff. way too long to be kept in this suspence, especially b/c of the ending of the last one...don't exactly remember it anymore, but i remember it being really good and so frustrating cuz there was no next one yet.
i'll prolly end up re-reading them to pass the wait.

Yeah, the Exiles books are good... I wonder why she can't finish them? :(

I read on her website that both she and her mother went through some health problems and she just hasn't been able to get back to them. :( I check her site every once and while for an update, but, so far nothing.

the website is www.melanierawn.com the main page doesn't get updated that much with news...not that much news to report at this time I guess. But if you go to their message boards you can get some info. Been a while since I've visited. Melanie Rawn actually does post there sometimes, so the info there is pretty accurate. :)

Just visited melanie's offical site and she's posted some interesting news. :D
I love that she actually posts on her site and talks to her members. Anywhoo here's her post:
Hello, all!
I don't do IM. The couple of times I've tried it, there were so many people chiming in that I got too confused to carry on an even halfway intelligent conversation with any of them. Frustrating for me, frustrating for you. Not A Good Thing.
However--
Good Thing: I finished "Spellbinder" just before Christmas (December 21, in fact--the longest night of the year!). No, I don't know when it will be published. When I get word on it, I'll let you know.
Early in the New Year I'll have a little project for all you EXILES folks, as I'll be gearing up to write "Captal's Tower." (Don't get too excited--it takes me anywhere from 18 months to five years (!) to write a book.) I'll post on this page and the EXILES board so everyone can contribute their thoughts and opinions.
Everyone have a safe and happy new year.
Melanie
I've been waiting for years for CT, so I guess I can wait some more. But, please, oh please, let it be 18 months.

Melanie Rawn posted an announcement on her website asking her readers for help with the last book in the Exiles series. Here's her announcement"
Okay, campers, I need your help!
It's been years since I read the first two books, and, to quote Indy's dad, Henry Jones: "I wrote it down so I wouldn't *have* to remember it!"
So now that I'm thinking seriously about finishing the trilogy, I have two choices: reread the things or do it the easy way by asking y'all to help out.
The first choice makes me cringe. I've never been able to read my own stuff once it's in print. After all, I read it through four or five (or six) drafts, another draft after the editor got hold of it, yet another time to proofread the galleys, yet again to proofread the final version, and one more damned time to proofread the paperback. (I know--I'm a lousy proofreader. So sue me.) By the last go-round I'm so sick of what I wrote (and so mortified at all my mistakes and just plain bad writing) that I never want to read it again in my whole entire life.
So I'm taking the easy way.
I need your help in two parts.
1. Tell me about the plot thread that was most important to you, puzzled you the most, and/or that you really feel needs to be addressed. (Yeah, yeah, I know all about Collan. I think we can safely include him out of this list!)
2. DO NOT tell me what you *think* is going to happen in "The Captal's Tower." No guesses, no suggestions, no demands--please please please? I already know where it's going; what I need is your help in reminding me how I got to where "Traitor" ended, so I can get to the end of "Tower" without lousing things up too badly.
Please keep your responses brief and organized. (There will be a test next week--oops, that was the teacher part of me breaking through again!) Much as I adore you and value what you have to say, I don't want to wade through 12 pages from each of you. What I need is a concise list of things to address that I might otherwise have forgotten.
I've created an e-mail account especially for this project. Please don't load up the BB with replies. Instead, send them to:
Exilesthree@aol.com
This account will be open for quite a while, so there's no rush. I won't be responding to every reply, except when I'm not clear on something or I need you to explain a little more. So if you don't hear back from me, please don't feel slighted.
Thank you in advance from the bottom of my lazy heart!
Love,
Melanie

I love Melanie Rawn. I've been a fan of hers since Dragons Prince first came out. I'd personally like to see a new trilogy about Pol's daughter's after they've grown up. A whole new generation of Faradhi rulers to read about...

I'd love to have more of Dragon Prince/Star world. I kinda thought she might write something about Lady Merisel and the ancient sunrunners. I'll just be happy if she finishes Exiles. :)
On a side note, she has written a new book called Spellbinder and turned it into her publishers, I have no idea when it'll be out though, nothing on her offical site.

is spellbinder starting a new series, or just a one book kind of thing, or what?

From what I could find out, I think it's a stand-alone, in so far that it doesn't fit in to any of her current series. Her website didn't say anything about it being developed into another series.

good, finally, a book i can read without having to worry about needing to devote time/patience to the rest of the series

I have to say that reading her book was pure torture for me. I forced myself to read about 300 pages and i just couldn't take it any more. I felt like i was reading a history book. It seemed more like the explanation of a family tree that had wayyyy to many branches than a story. Just my 2 cents

Which book did you read Raunch?
Give her a second chance! :)

to each his own, i guess...but i agree, give it a second chance, maybe a diff. series.

I don't know which series it was. I tried to burn it from my memory.
