Hello, i've been looking for some new books to read as i am very bored this summer. I'm just wondering if some nice people could give me some fantasy series reccomendations, i really enjoyed wheel of time, lord of the rings, the belgariad, and dune. Was hoping to find some more books with similar themes, perferably something with a similar theme to the wheel of time, thanks.

Note: i was told to repost this because i had it in the wrong forum, i appologize, as i an new here and did not see this section.

Wow, where to begin...

Well, there is:

The Song of Fire and Ice series by George R R Martins.
-highly recommended by most here ;)
-It is up to 3 books with the 4th being released in a few weeks :D

Raymond Feist's Serpent War Saga,
-or I much prefer his newer series. This guy writes books to no abandon and seems to be getting better each time.

The Death Gate Cycle by Weis & Hickman
-Very light reading and quite enjoyable.

M.Y.T.H. books by Robert Asprin
-Extremely light 2-in-1 books that follow a sort of english humour satire bit.

So much more....

Farseer trilogy- Robin Hobb (if you like her books, read the liveship traders trilogy next, then the tawny man trilogy)

Dragonlance- Weis and Hickman (start with dragons of autumn twilight and don't bother with the other authors, it's pretty light reading, but entertaining)

Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn trilogy- Tad Williams

Wayfarer Redemption series- Sara Douglass (again, light but entertaining, but some of the characters/places have kind of stupid names, like the 'savior' is the 'Starman,' and there is a fort called the 'Gorkenfort')

anything by David Gemmell (Morningstar is my favorite)

And you MUST read aSoIaF!!!!!!!

Buckweet- are you sure? I've seen some sources that say this fall, some say next april, some say next fall... :(

Anything by Stephen R. Donaldson is required reading, in my opinion.

The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant (First book is Lord Foul's Bane)

The Gap Cycle ( First book is Gap into Conflict: The Real Story)

Zelazny is good.
The Chronicles of Amber

i know it's been said, and resaid, but GRRM's a song of ice and fire.

that is some wicked powerful good shit, seriously.

cource, you'll just fly thru it cuz you wont wanna put it down, and with the 4th not due out till god knows when...this year, i hope, tho the date has been pushed back more times than i wanna count....goddamn GRRM and his intolerably slow writing...i know it'll be worth the wait, but still, arggghh.(i guess that last could go in any # of threads, venting, SoIaF, GRRM, etc., i was here, so that's where i put it)

(my hope was that it would help to really show how good that stuff is, yea, that's what it was s'posed ta do...)

Lol thank you for the suggestions guys, and keep them comming please, i went out and purchased a few of the suggestions including a song of ice and fire, and am about to start reading, but there is still a month left of summer so i could use a few more books to read perferrably something that follows the theme of magic, fantastic creatures and its always good to have some romance in there

Sword of Truth Series
by Terry Goodkind

Up to like 8 books now and each one is practically a stand alone story on its own. Quite enjoyable especially if you are looking for romance and magic in one.

The first book is chalk full of good quotes. but I guess you would have to RAFO.

:D

if it's romance and magic you're lookin for, try melanie rawn's Dragon prince series, which is 3 books, and is followed by the Dragon Star series(continuing the story, but about the next generation and just as good), also 3 books. if you like those, she does another series called the exiles, in which there are 2 books (and will continue, but she hasnt finished the next one) she also co-wrote some other books, which are prob good too, but i havent read any of those.

that's all i can think of for now, so start reading aSoIaF and tell us what you think of that (not entirely about magic, but really good anyways)

happy readings:D

C.S. Friedman's Coldfire Trilogy, it is one of my Favorite Fantasy/Sci-fi. It's set way into the Future, a Seed ship is Colonizing a planet, but there is something there that interacts with the human psyche. Damien Kilcannon Vryce is one of the coolest heroes you'll ever read about.
Black Sun Rising
When True Night Falls
Crown of Shadows

And then there is Terry Brooks. Not the best, but not the worst

The Shanara Books are decent. The Elfstones and the Druid of Shanara are my favorites.

I haven't read too much of Michael Moorcock, The Elric Saga is a little on the Dark side, but it's a decent read.

Then there is Robert Heinlein.

Glory Road and Starship Troopers should be read by all. Classic Sci-Fi.

The Symphony of Ages, by Elizabeth Haydon. The magic in this series is based mostly on elements and music, very cool, a great read. First book is called Rhapsody. Four books right now, five is one the way.

Elvenbane, Elvenblood are okay,
Sword of Shannara is mediocre,
Wolfs Head Wolfs Heart is a good book but read the first one first or you'll get confused till halfway through.
I'm going to try aSoIaF. everyone seems to like it

Finished reading GRRMs a Song of Ice and Fire about a month ago, then started in on Sword of truth, currently on book seven, and i have to say Sword of Truth is a great series, and has easily become one of my favorites, i fear i may be rearranging my list quite often if i keep getting suggestions of such good series :P that doesen't mean stop, once im done Sword of Truth, which will most likely be in the next week, i've got nothing else to read!

My top three favorite seires are now the following :)

Wheel of Time
Sword of Truth
A Song of Ice and Fire

I've been reading all ur suggestions, and looks like Terry Prachett and Raymond Feist will be next. Thanks Again!

The sword of Truth Series by Terry Goodkind is excelent! I have read the whole series and have found it very interesting!
If you're bored, you can start by reading Wizards First Rule.

I definately agree with aSoIaF, but you might also want to look into The Darkangel trilogy by Merideth Anne Pierce or The Last of The Renshai trilogy by Mickety Zucker Reichert. The Renshai trilogy is heavy on Norse mythology if you like that.
