i have been disapointed by fantasy movies, if not by movies themselves, then by their inacuracy to the books...like LoTR and harry potter; good movies, but some parts, i felt, could have followed the book better, or not been taken out entirely....
so, although i figure this idea will most likely not pan out, i would love to make a cable channel that shows only movies made from fantasy books without changing them or leaving things out...books in their entirety...
im not sure, really what i want this thread to do, just, agree with me...:D tell me that im right...

AYE.. good idea I guess.
But just think how many hours the WoT TV show/movie(s) would run???
Its not going to happen and I don't want it to either. I refuse to see LOTR.... I don't want to see someone else's Rivendale, I prefer mine thank you very much.
After all.... isn't that the whole point of reading???

So what if its not by the book exactly. The LotR movies are both drooling good. Gollum just makes me get the heebeegeebee's.
As long as you go in knowing that they are going to have some/a lot of the stuff wrong sit back and enjoy it.
Look at the Xmen movie. Dont get me started on how much stuff is not quite right. But I went and enjoyed it immensly anyway. ;)

I think movies based on books need to be different. Its like bands who cover songs. If they don't intepret it differently, and play it differently then it just sounds cheesy.

okay, maybe not exactly like that; and i agree that LoTR was exellent, as Xmen, tho good, was inacurate...
but if not for entire books, then for fantasy/sci fi books that would otherwise not become movies, like WoT, or i dunno, others like that.....better now?

I was highly suspicious(sp) of X-mne. Hugh Jackman is like 6'1", wolverine is supposed to be 5'2" or close to it. Hugh pulled off Logan, I was impressed. Adn as far as LotR, they had to change it somewhat, All that history would have lenghtened the movies to 4 hours instead of 3.

I hated that bit in Two Towers when Aragorn fell off a cliff. That whole section could have been replaced with the Dunedain and Narsil etc. Anyway brilliant movie! Return Of The King looks like its going to be missing alot aside from the Scouring Of the Shire ending.
Fantasy movies based on books are excellent! I would be pretty dissapointed to know every nook and cranny of a movie I'm about to see if I've read the book.

The problem with any fantasy-based movie is that the director has a different vision of the book then you do. For example, LOTR movies were geat, but I do not feel theat they interpreted about book very well. The feeling that the movie gives you is different from the one the book does. To my mind the movie is too dark. Also I agree with whoever said they should have just stuck to the book, as close as they could.
Anyway, not all fantasy series would make good movies. WoT would make terrible ones. Just imagine, how they would try to put on screen the One Power weaves when a character sees them (not just lightning or fireballs, that they can do), or the dice in Mat's head, or all the Warder bonds etc.
