I thought harry potter was an awesome book. The only stupid thing was the scene with sirius and the archway. It totally was moiraine dying. Totally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!c'mon Rowling, stop plagerizing our beloved series. but it was one of the best books I've ever read.

i thought book 5 sucked...and now since they butchered my fav. character ive had to settle on a new one: the Weasley twins!
I mean, she KILLED Sirius! What a bitch! AND she made Harry throw this pathetic little temper-tantrum at the end...i couldn't stand it...

the main problem i have with sirius' death is that she left harry with more unresolved parental unit issues. as if he didn't have enough to begin with.
and my main problem with the book in general was that it wasn't a mystery...there was no twist at the end, there was no suspecting one person of something and having it be someone else. It kind of felt like a bridge type book between the early books and some new thing occurring in the following books now that harry knows his destiny and voldemort is undeniably back.
kev, are you suggesting that fifteen year olds don't have temper tantrums? because i sure did when i was fifteen. what with the stress of losing his father figure and hormones and girl problems and almost dying, it's not really that big a stretch for harry sort of lose it.

My main problem with book was that Harry didn't act enough like a 15 year old boy. I mean when I was 15 all I could think about was girls, and there was no one below notice. I don't know how Harry and Ron are best Friends and they didn't talk about girls once in the whole book? That's Crazy, and and is it just me or is harry the dumbest person in the book or what? The only person in the book with a brain was Hermone(sp?) I always new she was the baddest the the smartest but in this one she just some much smarter than harry it was crazy.
You'd think with what harry's been through the experience would make him even stronger. But all he does the whole book is through temper tantrum after temper tantrum and whine and yell. He was acting more like he was 5 than 15. Plus Ron and Hermone didn't even hook up yet? what's up with that. Plus Cho who I game harry prop's for before cause she was a cute asian girl which i also have a weakness for, turns out to be a whiny pathetic thing. Overall a real disappointment.

I thought it was pretty good, but it seemed like Rowling went out of her way to make Harry miserable. The best part was Fred and George :D but I hope they don't stay off-screen for the rest of the books just because they aren't at school anymore. I was kind of pissed off that she killed Sirius, he was miserable and lonely for most of the book and then he gets killed. :(

Fred and George Weasley are amazing, but my complaint is that with Cho Chang out of the Picture, who is going to end up datiing Hermione? I had always hoped that we'd see Cho/Harry and thus, Ron/Hermione. But alas, a Harry/Hermione coupling looks all too possible.
I didn't like the way Harry acted like a flaming asshole for most of the book. He really lost his benevolent, compassionate and "poor little orphan boy" qualities.

my boyfriend brought up an interesting point about harry's not acting like a 15 year old boy in regard to girls. he pointed out that harry has lived in a closet for most of his life, had no friends until he was 11, and never felt loved as a child. if that doesn't bring about social retardation, i don't know what would.
now, RON should have been talking about girls. and i don't think with cho out of the picture, the harry/hermione coupling is more likely. it seems that harry will be loner when his two best friends hook up. there's nothing to suggest harry and hermione have ever thought about each other that way, and everything to suggest that hermione at least has consciously thought of ron that way, and ron just hasn't realized his feelings for hermione yet.

Anyone else think Harry took on a brouding, out of control anger personality similar to Rand? I mean it was like Harry was channeling Rand's spirit or something, always angry and stuff. Of course I was a rather angry teen myself. Though honestly, I think Rowling was just trying to show some more of the Voldemort charecteristics coming through, come to think of it, now harry has someone else inside his head. Damn it Rowling! I don't know if she's doing it on purpose buts its starting to get annoying.

yeah but Rand never started throwing things around when he found out that he was the one that would kill the DO. he just started quoting "Duty is heavier than a mountain, Death is lighter than a feather." He ACCEPTED his responsibility. And i agree that Harry's position at home "could" have made him a social retard, because at my hs there were only 5 girls in my graduating class, so i was a social retard when i left. but harry lives at hogwarts for 9 of the 12 months in the year. i dont think that being away from friends for the summer is reason enough to make him retarded when he talks to girls

I understand how stupid guy's are at 15 and was willing to give him some leeway, but the way he was always angry the whole book was just rediculous, Especially since he was the only one who acted like that. No one else in the book acted like that, except for maybe cho. Doesn't she know Hermonie and Harry are best friends did she over react or what. But then again she is a girl and since I've never understood than any way her reaction is acceptable.
As for Sirus I didn't really like him that much as a character anyway, I was sorry to see him die but that was more for harry's sake than anyone else's.
Also you'd think that when some one has been through the things harry's been though some one would have to do more than talk to get a rise out of him. but he's 15 so I can let that go. But he didn't even really try to learn that magic to protect his mind. Even though he was told repeatedly that it was the most important thing for him to learn. but then again he's 15 so he doesn't listen to adults. Though when Sirus told hilm there is nothing more important than him learning that magic I thought he would listen.
Harry seemed less mature in this book than he did in the first one. let alone in the 4 book.

I have to disagree with you there, Rand didn't just accept it, infact he tried to run away from it the entire second book. Plus Rand was older then Harry when he found out. Harry got pissed off, and Rand tried to run away. Of course, Harry doesn't have to worry about breaking the world... this is getting interesting, the comparison I mean.

Also Harry's been admiried since he was born, and Rand started out as a nobody. Also Rand has to worry about going mad and dying of a rotting sickness. No such fear for Harry. Also that Rand is the Rebirth of the most Hated man in history doesn't help him either.
Harry has to worry about either killing or being killed by voldemort

me and my friend have both read out HP: OOTP and we discussed what was the two best scenes. we agreed finally. the first is when Fred and George leaves the school, and tell Peeves to do as much havoc for them as possible. and Peeves goes "Yeas Sir".
The second is when Umbridge is trying the leave the school without much notice. unfornatley for her, Peeves is back, snatching mcgonagals walking stick and a sock full of chalk, and starts to beat and rally her out of the school with as much glee and noice as possible. students gather up, and the teachers only half hearthely tries to stop them. and later on, mcgonagal sits down and goes:" if Peeves didn't snatch my walking stick, i would be chasing her out of school, and beating her"(or something like that):D
hehe... I also liked when Harry is talking about careers with Mcgonagal and Umbridge keeps coughing and M. says "are you quite sure you wouldn't like a cough drop" or something like that. I think OotP has made me actually LOL more than any fantasy book I've read for a while. :D

(I think). and every single person in LotR has long hair execpt the hobbits and they're lame.

Okay, I just got finished reading the book this week. I have to say that all in all I thoroughly enjoyed it. It sucks that Sirius was killed off but in order to have a tragic character, tragedy must continue to happen. Besides, he wasn't serving much purpose in the story, especially since Harry isn't able to live with him. The one thing that bothered me in this book was the big climax with Dumbledore when he and Harry had the conversation at the end. I was expecting Dumbledore to give some big revelation and basically he just confirmed what was already known...Harry is going to have to have one final til-the-death battle with Voldie. Wow, big bit of info there. That was a huge disappointment.

Now I was totally expecting that to happen by the end of the book. Especially when Harry had to tell the two of them (so many times!) to stop snipipng at each other. I mean, that's TOTALLY what you do at the age of 15 when you like someone. You pick on them constantly. I was a little disappointed when Ron and Hermione so totally didn't go that direction.
And whoever said the thing about Sirius being like Moiraine.... so totally didn't dawn on me when I finished the book yesterday, but YES! And what an anti-climactic way to die! He deserved a better death. Although at least it brought about a decent explaantion from Nearly Headless Nick as to why we've never seen Harry's parents floating around as ghosts.

8th July 2003, 16:21
oh give me a break!!!! that's in aloms every story about ghosts. seriously they said almos that exact sme thing in casper. I can't wait until I get CoT when I'm in new york. but I reALLY CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THE PRODUCERS TONIGHT ON BROADWAY!!!!!!!WhoooooHoooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tatum
8th July 2003, 18:06
Actually, thats not true Ian. In most ghost stories, the presence of a ghost is explained as being a result of unfinished business. In the case of Harry's parents, they definitely had unfinished business so it wouldn't be inconceivable for them to have stuck around. Therefore, it was a good plot tie up for Rowling to write the conversation with Nick.
P.S. Let me know how The Producers was. Martin Short and Jason Alexander are starring in it here in L.A. I'm trying to decide if I want to go or not.

Yes, Ian McKellan (sp?) will be playing Dumbledore, which I think will be a bad move. Two major fantasy franchises both coming out around the same time, and now two very pivotal characters in each story will be played by the same actor?
I was so upset when Sirius died, he was my favourite character by far. But I reason to believe that he will be back however. Reason one being that he was a very important character, being the first real parental unit that Harry has ever known, and being such an important character he should have a huge elaborate death, and Rowling gave him a really crappy death. Reason two being that all the things that Luna Lovegood said in the book came true in part, (except the crumple horned snorklacks:rolleyes: ) and she said that Harry would see him again.
And as for relationships, I think Harry will end up with Ginny. Up until now she has been a very minor character, (even in book two we only really pain attention to her until the end, and even then she was passed out in the CoS) and she grew alot as a character in this book, just as Harry's crush on Cho is waring off. And Ron and Hermione will definitely hook up, most definitely.
And I can't wait until Harry gets his OWLs and blasts Dudley away!

that's my feeling as well. but aside from that, i think he may make a pretty good dumbledore. as one of my friends was saying, the actor who played him before wasn't quite sharp enough...from what i've seen of ian mckellan as gandalf in the beginning of fotr, i think he'll make a decent dumbledore...i just hope he doesn't make him into gandalf...

i for one would be very disappointed in rowling if she DOES bring him back, it would show such a lack of balls. but i hope she had a good reason for it, otherwise it would just be stupid. as for that last luna comment, i think she meant harry will see him again when his time comes.

okay... but does anybody got the distinct feeling that Hermione and Ron(ald) is getting together. and i think that Longbottom has changed a bit, for the better that is. the whole thing with the Deatheaters and all...
But there's a possibility that Sirius isn't dead. i mean, when he "dies", he is just thrown into the Gateway-thingy (don't remember what it was called) and no curses like Avada Kedavra. hmmm. and maby he did die, but becomes a ghost . everything is a possibility, and the only one who knows, is writing the sequal right now :grumbles:. why couldnt she have finished the whole serie, and then published. i'm sick of waiting:shattered.
