I subscribed to Writer's Digest mainly to get information on Writing Contests. Of course the tips for new writers are nice to read as well...

L.Ron Hubbard sponcers a Fantasy/Sci-fi contest. Published Authors need not apply. Deadline is March 31. No more than 17,000 words.

The Swouthwest Review has an interesting contest. They have a quarterly publication for stories 3,500 to 7,000 words. Double spaced, so that is around 10 to 20 pages. All subject matter will be accepted, but only the best few will be published.

And for you history buffs, they have a Civil War Fiction contest here:

Good luck everybody who chooses to participate, and if you know of other Writing Contests please post them here.

No problem, if there are people in this community who have wanted to become professional writers, I would like to do my part to help them out. I aspire to become one of the people helped by this process of course, but if you are interested in participating in any of these contests, and would like someone to critique your work, let me know. If there are enough of us who want to do this, perhaps we can form a committee.

Does anybody else have any input in this line of thought?

hey all--
personally, i love writing, and reading others writing and critiquing (brain fart, cant spell). I think that commitee idea sounds great, and I'd love to be a part of it 2. I think that the writing process these days is one that is not generally regarded as "cool," and i think that needs to change... Writing is a perfect vector for expressing oneself, and that needs to be encouraged. This group/commitee on fantasy writing, or writing at all, with everyone submitting and critiquing everyone elses works would be an amazing and rare thing. If it

Just my 2 cents.

Cool, that's one...

If more people are interested, I do have some ideas... I would like to design a website where members can submit short stories for review. Then anyone who wishes to read the stories can grade them and submit any coments they have directly to the author or to a general message board.

It will allow novice authors to give their material some exposure to the general population as well as get some feedback on your writing style.

I don't have any money so don't expect to get paid for your writing, however if you want to become a professional author eventually but need some work on your technique, this might be just the venue for you.
