This poem is about my Grandmother that passed away a few years back. I read a version of this poem at her funeral. It was one the hardest things i have ever done. The original was better but i can't find it anywhere.
She stood on the front porch
in her velvet house shoes
she would always watch us leave
waving goodbye with a smile
I remember her laughing
her warmth and kindness
but i never realized how special she was
or what she meant to me
As we grew older
we took her for granted
and slowly drifted from her life
to live a life of our own
Now she has gone to a better place
and when i look to the clear blue sky
with the sun shining upon my face
I see her waving her last goodbye.
She stood on the front porch
in her velvet house shoes
she would always watch us leave
waving goodbye with a smile
I remember her laughing
her warmth and kindness
but i never realized how special she was
or what she meant to me
As we grew older
we took her for granted
and slowly drifted from her life
to live a life of our own
Now she has gone to a better place
and when i look to the clear blue sky
with the sun shining upon my face
I see her waving her last goodbye.
