I was at a Barnes&Noble today and saw that five shelves were taken up with books that all said Dragonlance. They were almost all by different authors.... Are they any good, who's the best author, and where the hell do you start reading?

Hurrah, finally a thread about Dragonlance! :) :)
Coincidentally I just today bought Dragons of Summer Flame & Dragons of a Lost Star
Margaret Weis and Tracey Hickman to start with, Val. If you can find the Twins saga they are the best (test of the twins, time of the twins and war of the twins).
I started reading these at about age 11 and I haven't stopped yet, still one of my all time favourites. Most of the books are pretty good and I haven't found one that has disappointed me yet

edit: start with Dragons of Autumn Twilight if you can

Read the Chronicles and then Legends.
The rest suck.

I'll probably try some of them... but I just picked up the first Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn book, and I've heard that Gemmell is really good, so I might try some of his books, and CoT is coming out soon. :D
Just curious...

wait a damn minute, I was browsing the reflections forum and I noticed in your thread you had a quote from Dragons of Autumn Twilight
Care to explain, Mister "I was at a Barnes&Noble today and saw that five shelves were taken up with books that all said Dragonlance. They were almost all by different authors.... Are they any good, who's the best author, and where the hell do you start reading?" ?

I saw it in someone's sig (some fantasy-related ng) a while ago. And no, I'm not going to dig through the wasteland that is Google to find the link to prove it. I didn't even realize that book was from Dragonlance until you said that.
And that's Miss "I found that in a sig on a ng...

the great thing about reflections posts is that you shouldn't feel like you have to explain them to anyone, otherwise they'd just be normal posts anyone could respond to.

Chronicles, then Legends, then most are terrible, as Berk said, except for the Raistlin books, beginning with The Soulforge, and some of the stories in Tales.

SOme of the Hero's are good. Weasel's Luck, Stormbringer(could be wrong otn the tittle, this one is about a sword for the dwarves), but yeah teh best ones are about Caramon and Raistlin.

The Raistlin ones are great. The Soulforge, and Brothers in Arms. He is definitely the most intriguing character in the series.

i haven't read Brothers in Arms yet but I intend on getting it very shortly. Raistlin is without a doubt the greatest character ever devised. I really think it sucks *spoiler*
that he's lost all of his magic now though

My question is, can you like the characters? I have read so many books where I hate the character, so this is important
James

I love Raistlin. He's like my brother. I'd make a better brother for him than that idiot Caramon
Tas is very likeable & so is Fizban. I like Kitiara as well and the other major characters like Flint & Tanis & the rest

Does anyone have any info on when the next book in the Raistlin Chronicles will be out? Soulforge and Brothers in Arms have been out a loooooong time, but still no word on the 3rd book. :(

*steals Raistlin's Staff of Magius, and resurrects this thread*
yeah dragonlance!! i started Dragon of Autumn Twilight, and its dang good. yes, Raistlin is SO awesome!!! by far my fav character. but Tasslehoff is right up there in best character category! i went to the website, and there are over 20 books in it. (and i thought wheel of time was long). but they are worth it, maybe even better than wheel of time. and if not, they are dang close....

I used to read Dragonlance back in the day, but fell out of reading them. I went back to try and pick it up again and it didn't stick.
