i was watching Spaced (if you don't know what that is ure REALL missing out) and they mention this really cool theory.

the events of the Star wars trilogy (new hope, empire strikes back and Return of ths Jedi) can all be traced back to the actions of one minor Charecter
Which one i hear you ask
on the star ship in the beginning one of the Trouper/worker dudes
asks whether to blow up the ship containing R2D2 and C3PO, the boss guy says No, if he had sed yes thre Robo's wouldn't have met Luke he wouldn't have met Obi wan who wouldn't have hired Han and they would never have met Leia and never beaten Darth Siduos and the Empire would rule the universe Ad Infinitum

Of course, it all breaks down to Jar Jar being a dumbass and giving power to Palpatine in the first place.

Not to mention the fact that he's a terrible character to begin with.

talyn rahl
3rd January 2003, 15:23
thats a bit harsh bloodhawk

Blood_Hawk
3rd January 2003, 18:44
yeah
i heard about that. i too would've liked to of seen it, I heard George lucas got a hernia when he heard about it..

Aragorn
3rd January 2003, 21:50
Well that's ridiculous. It would HAVE to have Anakin, as he ends up being the main character of the whole storyline.

talyn rahl
5th January 2003, 11:12
Yeah but he's an irratating little shit and his AotC counterpart wasn't much better

Ugh... I dislike Hayden Christensen. He's living proof that the prettiest guys are often the most evil.

But that theory about the events in Star Wars being traced to the actions of one minor character? I don't find that entirely geeky, but then again I am a geek. But I find this theory a little interesting, because it applies to other stories as well (and no, I am NOT stoned).

Take Wheel of Time, for example. Rand's surrogate father, Tam al'Thor, seems to have a pretty null role in WoT. But if he hadn't rescued the infant Rand in the mountains, then Rand would have frozen to death and he wouldn't have grown up and befriended Mat, Perrin, and Egwene or meet Moiraine and Lan and get chased by Trollocs and become the Dragon Reborn.

And Bilbo Baggins from Lord of the Rings. Like Tam, Bilbo sorta fades into the background at the start of LOTR, yet if he didn't find the One Ring in The Hobbit, he wouldn't have been able to give it to Frodo, and Frodo wouldn't have been able to destroy it. Gollum would still have been stuck with the Ring and be brooding in his cave until some Ringwraiths or something would come in and take it from him.

exactly its Chaos theory, the predictablitly of random Events.

Oy.
I think you guys are nuts. This is no "theory". What you were saying about the guys almost blowing up the escape pod with the droids shouldn't be taken too seriously. I mean... duh... it ain't that big of a deal for crying out loud! Stories aren't supposed to end right away and every main character dies... thus it isn't a story, it's a morbid tale of nothing.

Ok, onto a REAL theory on Star Wars. Be warned, I think this is correct, so there might possibly be SPOILERS ahead. (this idea may have already been mentioned, but what the heck)

In the next movie, I tink it will be revealed that Chancellor Palpatine and Darth Sidious are the same person! Think about it... the Emperor and Sidious look clearly alike, and Palpatine is hiding out with the good guys to get the inside scoop. Then someone (either Count Dooku or Sidious) will kill Natalie Portman and everyone will rejoice! Yipeeee! But seriously, I believe that will happen, and then Mr. Pietalker will go on another mad rampage and kill some random Tusken Raiders, and eventually Dooku and/or Sidious. Mace Windu will sadly die, probably along with all the rest of the Jedi, since they sure aren't in the other three movies. Before Natalie dies though, she'll birth those two little bundles of joy: Luke and Leia, and we'll all rejoice once again! Yipeeeee!

Just a thought. :D

I don't think that Lucas has the guts to kill Natalie Portman. He'll work it out so that she goes off into seclusion or some crap like that. And yeah, Sideous and Palpatine are the same...Darth Sideous becomes the Emperor....Emperor Palpatine ;) It will be interesting to watch Anakin slowly become seeped in evil...if it isn't screwed up by not being dark enough :P The galaxy is taken over by an evil force...it had better be dark...all the servents of light killed etc etc... :P

Bye the Bye, When Anakin becomes Vader, he hunts down all the jedi, kills most of 'em. Obi Wan confronts him in a volcano and leaves him for dead after severly kicking his ass. Which is why Vader had the suit. Anyone who's played the Star Wars Role-Playing game has read that basic synopsis.

Amidala dies in an accident whil hiding out on Alderan. Leia has fond memories of Amidala. The Twins were seperated after Anakin was tunred to the Dark-Side.

Actually I believe the "volcano" is the Sarlaac (sp?) pit, or so I've heard. I sure hope Episode 3 has a different actor then Hayden Christensen...

Byrn
24th February 2003, 20:12
No, what I read was specific. It was a Volcano. The Sarlaac Pit is where Boba Fett is killed in Return.

talyn rahl
25th February 2003, 04:52

Talyn Rahl,

Ok, I can forgive the plagerization of the name Rahl, but please explain to me (Im very stupid or something) on how to Predict """"RANDOM""" events. Personally, this would lead someone to believe that there is no such thing as random. Tam saves Rand on Dragonmount, Tiagraine goes into the waste and becomes a maiden, Rand is friends to other Ta'averen who live in the same small village as him as well as 2 of the most powerfull Aes Sedia to be in the world. A minor character deciding not to blow up a ship carrying R2 and C3PO.

All of this leads me to belive that nothing would be random, more like it was ment to happen, but the character thought it was by free will. But these are just my broken headed thought.

talyn rahl
26th February 2003, 04:48
nope mate you are bang on the money, that is EXACTLY what im gettin at, the randomness of the events surrounding Rand, and the efect of his Ta'avarenness on more than just him and his mates.

oh yeah BtB its not Plagerism because im not claiming the name as mine, im borrowing it from TG for this forum.

actually I read a series of comic books about this sort of theory just a bit ago. Found a trade paper-back in my library called Star Wars Infinities...it's a series of comics that explore the star wars universe from a what if perspective. Things like what would have happened if things wouldn't have gone the way they did. Not quite as disasterous as if the droids had never landed on Tatoooine but it was interesting nevertheless. The set I read was about A New Hope and what would have happened if Luke had failed the blow up the Death Star with his one Proton Torpedo shot. It was really good..and interesting.

Sweet a bit like the What If X men series, i read the coolest one where instead of becoming Weapon X, Logan had to fight him. It kicked serious arse

Spaced, thats a quality program, like it when they sell oragano to those guys, and the robot wars club. funny as fuck.

yeah its funny though the way you look back and think if only i had done some small thing, then it all would have been different. Even worse when you thought about doing something then didnt, even though it would have taken no effort.

talyn rahl
28th February 2003, 08:08
yup you can get both series on DVD for a reasonable price, its damn funny especially the first series.

Has anyone seen the leaked footage from episode 3? I sort of umm... acquired the file. Has some very nifty stuff from the Anakin/Obi-wan fight scene. Anakin looks really nasty in this movie.
