I just started reading this series. I finished the first 2 books and I liked them. Anyone else heard of it?

Actually, yes. I read it a while back, very good series, quite enjoyable. I'd recommend it.

Well, Im not bumping this thread or anything but I just finished book 3 finally. Wow... all I can say is that the authors for this series are quite original... every book so far has been just plain wack. All these worlds are radically different with cool phreaky stuff going on on them :D

**can't wait to read book 4 and learn about the water world**

Read it years ago. Loved it, especially the character they transported from another series. Wont tell ya who tho, I think he comes along l8r, if he hasn't already.

Loved Zifnab, I think that was his name, and his dragon. The whole "at least Gandalf had a Balrog to fight with....." bit etc.
And Alfred is slapstick on paper, nice job writing that down.

Who are the authors?

Buckweet

co-authors:

Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman.

I found it under Weis at the bookstore though.

And I came across Zifnab in book 2.

"Gandalf was aloud to smoke a pipe"

*snickers* Oh the laughs.

I like those books.... Last books have nice cross refirences for things we do also know ;)

you gotta love Zifnab.
"Why of course I know how to fly. I have flewn DC-3"
and I liked this one:
"Gandalf and Gandalf, of course it was a lot easier his to perorm his act, when there's Balrog tied on his foot"

(sorry its been bit time I readed them, so quotes are very likely something like it, but not excatly)

it was Nizfab, wasn't it? Haven't read the books in years

I like the one when Zifnab tries to smoke a pipe :D

The dragon didnt let him smoke a pipe b/c it was concerned for its health.
Zifnab " :grumbles: Gandalf smoked a pipe"

Also from Zifnab: everybody wants to be a fighter or a magician, but no one wants to be the cleric. So I always end up healing their wounds. Wich somebody else would be the cleric for a while.

This was not litteraly, but it's been years since I read them.

Oh the laughs. I just finished the second to last book. All I can say is woooow!! This series is a very quick read and... AND the stories are very linear,....and...AND they are tied up into a nice synopsis. Nice job :)

I loved Zifnab but my fave was actually Haplo. Some sort of connection I guess. I loved the series and I usually re-read it once a year.

I finally had time to read it! it's really good. I thought the first book wasn't very good though, and I almost didn't pick up the second one, but I'm glad I did. :)

edit: I think the reason Zifnab is so funny is because he was in the Dragonlance series (Fizban) and he mentions familiar fantasy characters. :)

I love the dog...dunno why. Guess he reminds me of my old dog when I was younger. :D Dragonlance is a good series, at least the ones written my Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman.

Fizban: "Struck blind by the gods!"
Hehe.

Dragons of Autumn Twilight was actually the hardest one for me to get through, cos you could really tell the book was following the gaming module. After the first book was a success, the following books came into their own and were really fun to read.

Death Gate Cycle is a definite must-read if you enjoy Dragonlance. ;)

"Gandalf was aloud to smoke a pipe"

To which the Dragon replies:

"And why do you think he was called 'Gandalf the Grey'? I assure you, it was not because of the color of his robes"

The Death Gate Cycle was my first fantasy series - one which I will always remember with fondness.

Hello, i would just like to ask a couple simple questions about this series if someone would be so kind as to answer.

I have never read any of the dragonlance series, and noticing this is written by the same authors i am thinking it may take place in the same world, and reading here it contains one or more similar character. Is there any background information required in order to enjoy this series? Or is it complete stand alone?

Thanks.

The Death Gate Cycle is NOT a Dragonlance series. IT has nothing to do with the Chronicles or the Legends. Hope that helps.

(I tried to read this series, but was barely able to finish the first book.)

I only got as far as the book that had a lot of stuff take place underground.

I don't even remember why I stopped reading it. Maybe I'll give it a try again.

I read the DeathGate cycle a few years ago, it is a stand alone series but it is fairly blah (best word to describe it) might recommend it to someone stuck on a flight with nothing else to read.

I think it's pretty good but nothing phenomal. The worlds are too divisional and the themes are completely over apparent and not at all subtle.

The Dragonlance series is awesome. It's the series that got me hooked on the whole sci-fi/fantasy genre. The Chronicles was supposed to follow the modules except in a more story-like fashion, but it does deviate. I highly suggest whatever Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman wrote together and some of what they wrote separately.
