For Suroth , I made her a dress quite Japanese and Arabian, cause her description, and the places made me think to oriental East..
But I'm based on french translation on books so , some details must have been changed... ;)

yeah, the seanchan seem to be somewhat oriental, culture-wise, not necessarily racially...the lords seem to wear kimonos if my interpretation of turok's garb was correct. but i'm not all together sure about the lady's; what i really remember is skirts with pleats.

I admit that Mat may appear quite younger.
The fact is that I made alot of drawings of him for a long long time, and he had 2 different main faces .
What I wanted to show in this guy is the youthness ( because Mat is , by the way, reacting often as a teenage than in a steady man like does Perrin for exemple).
His attitude is most of the time impulsive , he reacts without thinking a lot. I don't want to say that he's totally inconsequent , but sometimes, he looks like a young an playing tricks guy :).Vindictive, childish, hothead, pernickety on her virility...
But he is full of craftiness, dedication, courage and self-sacrifice for those whom he likes...
Of course it's my point of view...
But I propose to you making another one ;with the other face I worked on , there's something different in his face .. so each one could choose the one he prefers.. and it's a good work for me submitting several work to Critics ;)

Thank you for you enthousiasm , it warms my heart, :) . It 's quite difficult to translate feelings each of us can feel inside of him and his toughts... because , evrybody got his own feelings and sensations reading Wot.
So it occurs that what I feel is not feel by others ... it is the "risque du métier" as we say here ;) .

What culture are the Saldeans? Cause your picture of Faile...she looks Egyptian. Not how I pictured her...then again, it's been a while, and I didn't pay a lot of attention on the discription. The only thing that really sticks out in my mind from the books, is her prominant nose.

Are you planning on doing Aviendha? Oh, and really like the Min...just how I pictured her.

so , I wrote many things , but web problem , and all lost *grr*.
So , I say it again, but shorter :

Egwene is pictured in both with long , thin, and aristocratic nose , and long dark and soft veils of hair on her shoulders.
Faile is as you say quite copper-skinned :D but the pic in YH is quite dark and GREEN ( :D) so she may appear very... exotic !! But the way she's described make me think about her as Corsican Lady.. A part of my family comes from Corsica ,and she looks like my mum..; I may have made something between both of them :D .

I'm working on Birgitte and Siuan Sanche. Have to think more about clothes of Aviendha as a Maiden , I don't remeber well... It's short but I wrote many things and all was erased ... hum so I write shorter :D

how big are your drawings, generally?

I sketch first it on a A4 paper , I scan , and then I work on it on computer except the outline , all is done on PC, and using a pencil tablet, so I can print them in 300dpi on a A4 paper. Here it is , you know evrything!! :)

AsI ramble every day in this wonderful site ( thx Mike :D), I read a lot of things that are slowly confusing me.... as you may know , here , a book is the half of one of yours... and we are about 10 books!!!!!the 5th, for you!!
could you imagine my despair!?
so may people asks me to draw characters I haven't read about yet...
Life , sometimes , is not cool....
so , when I see new thread , they very often are about what's going on next , in the FUTURE for me, I try to undesratnd what may have heppened between my last book here , and yours comments and interogations!!!

RJ should have you draw the covers instead of Sweet. You actually draw the characters like RJ describes them! And make them look good, too! Maybe you have a different, better cover artist for the French versions, but for English, we have Sweet, the worst artist to ever draw breath. :(

For those who didn't seen, I drew Elayne an Nynaeve looking after Egwene while she is exploring the world of dream, in Tar Valon , when they are novices( sorry I don't know the right word, it may be the same , I donno :D)
And they are in the dark 'cause they are doing something forbidden for young ladies able to channel...
and I found it quite beautiful showing faces lightened by candles .....
and Egwene is dark , because the lights are behind her... hehehe
I may change the title, so... :D

hey!! Beginner asked me question about the way I work on drawing, it's very simple:
1-firs I scan a well-outlined drawing (see at the top of this page)
2-then I work on Photoshop , using the layers... each one is allowed to a sharp piece of the drawings: one for the dress, one for the skin...
3-jewels are made at the end they look better without outline.. I redraw them overall the layers
4-Very Often I have to re-shadow generally the caharcter for his unity
5-I merge down the picI apply a couloured bkgd. Sometiupes I draw it more shraply ( like in "Rand" for exemple)
6-JPEG and Wotism!

for the design I 'm inspired by all the suits in centuroies all over the world... I just mix them all when I feel the need to*... thy're coming out of my spirit ;)
And for lIandrin, she's got plainted hair in txo big pieces aropund her head. Braids are very thin and golden , so her bneck is free and looks like a Swans'one

ginor.....Manies pictures are in my mind, and I work on them very often , at work , in my bus, in my bed , but in my mind... and sometime I translate on paper ideas of compoition I 've got in my mind... For simple characters , it's quite eay , for I just have to find the look and the clothes. For more elaborated pic, I have to think about the composition, the lights, the atmosphere.... more hard , more difficult ... But I like it :D

I ink before... the firts step is sketching and after that I clean my pic drawing on a new sheet of paper I place ove the sketch using a light table .Here , I ink properly the sharp outline of the drawing , and then I scan... and then Photoshop :)

how do you choose your color palettes for people's skin?

it depends....for exemple:
in the case of Nynaeve, I figured her in my head as a very country side girl , with skin exposed to sun... by the way she's darkened hair , so her color of skin might be a litlle copper , you know , this kind of peach skin some brown girls got!When I start a pic , I first do the face and all the nude pieces of the body. Color skibn is not a radiant pink , it's more a beige-grey, relighted with some warm color, like rose on cheeks or mouth. Shadows depends of the suit's coulours, so they might be blue, purple , redish....
the colour of hair is important, blonde got naturally pale skin ( Norvegian or Swedish), like copper ones. for brunettes , it's a kind different... some got a sunny skin, others a pale and marble skin...
Okok, I know I work with stereotypes , but to signifying something , I use simple and colour signs.....
For Elayne , for exemple , she's redish , I see her with a very bright and pale marble skin... with lips roses' pink, for a beautiful pre-raphaelit figure..... same for Liandrin.... same for Gawyn....
men are a little more difficult for skin colouring.... more male, stronger.... so I use grey coloured for their skin( Rand for exemple) and then I re-coulour with tiny pink and beige to unify the coulour. For Perrin, the forge , the fire , teh sun have burnished his skin ( as nynaeve). Mat is a dark-brown guy... some funny and tricky guy I remeber in my youth lools at him. I think burnished golden skin for him goes on with the tricky dark eyes and brows thick but neat.
Gawyn is more white , more pale pink as his sister... he gots golden hair..... so his skin is an aristocratic one, bright , delicate... even if he's a warior....
Galad is the oposite side of him... handsome , dark, copper skinned, burnished helmet.... like a gypsie one in my head ( for the design), drak mysteries of the eyes.... cheeks strongs, sqared-chin, black curls... :)
Fayle seemed to me meditearnean ( cause of her hairdo, her noose, the hawk....) like ladies are in Corsica or in Italy, a beauty of the warm places...

but sometimes , I have to re-work on the colour skin after a whole pic finished. because sometimes clothes and skin are not fitted with. I mean they seem be totally apart, quite enerving for a lady suited with no_correct-real clothes :D..
So , in this case , I have to use variation of colour to replace all the skinny places in the whole cohesion of the drawing....

So I just see how a character looks like in my head ( colour of the hair, of the eye , of the skin) and then I try to find a good balance to keep them all together in the right way with the rest of the drawing... :)

New idea!! I had a discuss with Alexe ( a new fellow here ) and a friend of mine... :) salut alexe ;), and we were talking about the Ways , I don't rmeember what... and I suddenly had something like a flash.... !!
I mean a pic isea came trough my mind... this is when The heroes are for the first time travellibng by the Ways , and they're almost outside when they suddenly hear the Mashin Shin rushing to them screaming horrible and disgustig things... So I sketches all my sunday this scene , tryoing to show all the characters ine the scene . This is not esay , cause there are the horses too!! :D By the way I probably do it this WE , I have to sketch it prpoerly :)
Don't worry , Lews , I'm planning on the pic we discussed about the other night :) I have to read it again to remind me the scene with Ishamael properly :)

I apologize to be so late on Mashin Shin, :shattered but I had to enlight something : I had troubles with my tablet cause stupid bro has installed Xp on pc without warning anybody , and when I wanted to work on the pic ( I had quite time left , this past week , and I really wanted to finish , and more of that , bro wasn't squatting the pc....; well some positives ways fit together for a nice work...), well , when I wanted to wok on the pc , nothing was ok , tablet didn't work anymore , I tried to reinstall drivers , and still, pb.... As mosqt of you may know ( or may not , héhéhééhé) I 've started a pic a pic about the first travel in the Ways by our heroes. When they hear Mashin Shin for the first time and they're scared to death...WellI had a lot of trouble to finish this pic (tablet , brother, time...).
And now I'm leaving tomorow for Ireland for 3 monthes 1/2 and iwon't work on it anymoe.... so I wanted to give you a small view of this pic, still work in progress , as you can see , but with all characters put on and colours in progress... You've been very very patient with this, so I wanted to offer to all those nice people who write gentle comments.. I just saw the cover of that New Spring novel. *thinks violent thoughts about stealing Sweet's paintbrushes* In addition to the normal goober-ness, Moiraine looks like she's wearing neon blue-lycra pants with matching booties. She's a reject from the seventies. I wondered where her striped tube top and rollerskates went to...

Then I went and visited Liane's gallery.

I felt better after taking a look at real art.

hallo everybody .. I'm back after a really really really long time away :)

I wanted to thank particularly the personns who still keep adding comments on my wot artwork. It has been a real surprise when I checked my work today to see the amount of people still posting comments ( good or bad) ... I mean the life of a free-lance artist is not easy sometimes, ( even often ) and all the other fellows artists around here know what I'm talking about :), and nice surprise like that are always rewarding :)

I'm in Canada right now trying to immigrate(it's HARD) , I'm working on Irish illustrations and french animated adds, but trying at the same time to improve my skills in 3d and animation, hoping to work on a 3 D video fairly soon ... My life has ups and downs as everybody's, but I have to say that when I saw all the people who are still looking at my artwork , I feel really warm inside, remeber why I love this job so much , and what's sharing art with others.

It's a pity that I dont have anymore time to draw on WOt , I have many preparatories sketches that never get completed --- like th Mashin Shin pic -- I wonder if Ill ever finish it ...I might one day put online , completed or not :) ..
for those interested in more work , I'll soon have a proper website ( wotism has been my only one in 4 years ! ) , where many many art will be avalaible... I've done many things in teh last few years!!

cool stuff...i've never had much of a knack for doin animation characters...but i love the rendering u do on some of them, so u use photoshop for it? i'm kinda trying to teach myself to paint my pics in photoshop lol

Yeah Photoshop is my main tool , although I'm trying to get into Painter now. I know you can do incredibly good things with painter , but I'm a little frustrated with it right now ( you know waht I'm talking about.. you switch from on program to the other and the shortcuts are not the same.. blablabla..) Anyway,it's just how you learn things I guess!! But yes, Photoshopis definitively worth to get into. Good stuff!

Im trying to get more savvy with webpage and all that kind of jazz... luckily my boyfriend is the brain in computer/web/internet intricacies/pc crashing/puzzling stuff happening to your machine !
what would I do without him.
I guess I would stare blankly at my machine when something goes wrong and start to talk to it " com'on, don't do this to me , you know it's not my fault.." (<==== I've been discovering Seinfeld lately--we don't have him in France-- and Lord! How funny that guy is ! I loose my mind everytime I listen to a little bit of his comedy routine) : Anyay I know a little bit more now and Im able to update a webpage... Im a big girl now ! ( kinda)
