Which fictional character do you most identify yourself with? It can be a movie persona, tv character, or from any book. I know we've had this in relation to WOT but WOT is banned from this! :D I'm very curious :D

Beatrice from Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. ;)

wendy
19th October 2002, 02:07
LOL I can definately see the resemblence in character Beppie.

EDIT: I couldn't think who I would choose but I just remembered someone I related to perfectly in every possible way. Fuschia from Mervyn Peakes Gormenghast trilogy.

Beatrice huh? I always related to Benedick myself :p

Actually, I think Althalus from The Redemption of Althalus by David Eddings :)

Gormenghast? 'tis a truly great book. They did a televised version a couple o years ago on bbc2, splendid it was, gormenghast looked just right, all weird and twisted.

By the way what is your avatar?

Well, that's just a super-tough question, wendy. It's not fair. I think i'm half-schizo... so picking one personality is kinda tough.... i'll try...

probably Anita Blake :) from Laurrell K. Hamilton's vampire hunter books.

but i empathize a lot with Ophelia from Hamlet. And Hamlet as well. :)

Theoban

DI John Rebus from Ian Rankin's books

We're the same - melodrama, depression, being a loner and heavy drinking.

Homer J Simpson.

Everyone is stupid but me.

yeah, i'd have to go with Anita Blake too - small, bitchy and hsd no problems causing pain to others . altho i'm not as prudish.

also Drusilla from BtVS - cos she's not easily understood and doesn't play well with others. and she bites.

Johan my avatar is a guy called Monkey Magic from an old japanese tv show. Imagine anime but with live people :D its so cool. I saw the BBC version of Gormenghast and liked it to, steerpike was just how I imagined him and so was Fuschia... and Flay and the whole crew, the acting was supurb, but somehow it wasn't even in the same leagues of the books. not as clever or something, but it was cool to watch.

The Tourist

I saw that Gormenghast series too. I quite enjoyed it, although I haven't read the book. It had quite a sad ending. It seems a lot like Star Wars, the way Steerpike starts off as slave, rises to the power and becomes evil (and gets burnt and has a mask), while in love with a princess who sadly dies. He also kills his master. Maybe George Lucas based Anakin Skywalker on Steerpike.

Anyways, the character I most identify with is Richard from the book of "the Beach" by Alex Garland. All the things he thinks of throughout the book are the sort of things I think of a lot, and he has a strong desire for travel and adventure like me :)

wendy

oooh I saw the movie of The Beach, that was awesome, like Lord of the flies for grown ups

LOL Demandred... *backs away slowly*

and I dunno, maybe Ulk IS fictional.. I mean he lives in a world inhabited by a lego army where he is self crowned king of beer...

and ooh anne (with an e) and Jo!!!! I love those gals, how much joy they bought to my ostracised pre-teen little self, knowing that I wasn't the only one like that :D

And um I think Begbie was scary

Ulk
23rd October 2002, 14:47
porno eh? i needs a good book to read! might pick it up, although i should prolly reread trainspotting.... bah! i'll just watch the movie. lol.

Hmm, I have a surprisingly hard time trying to think of a character that I'm like... anyone have a suggestion? :D

Maybe I shouldn't have asked that...

I've been watching anime just now. "Gravitation" is the sweetest thing I've ever seen... ooohhhhh. If those guys don't get each other in the end, I'm going to send evil, threatening letters to whomever made it...

wendy
24th October 2002, 21:40
I've got one for you Elin. Eliza Bennett from Pride and Prejudice, smart and horrifically sensible, yet not without imagination or humour.

Harun
24th October 2002, 22:27
Jay, from the View Askew movies, at least when I'm feeling foul mouthed. I even sort of resemble him when I wear a ski cap.

in stiches, yes. EVERY TIME I see it!!! and yes, the use of the soundtrack in that movie absolutely makes the movie. Office Space without that soundtrack = good. with that soundtrack = brilliant. :D

I'd have to say that assistant Taj guy from Van Wylder :p

I've been very goofy and very fustrated lately :D

Thanks, Wendy. :) "Horrifically sensible", huh... well, maybe it fits me. And I did like Pride and Prejudice a lot, I must've read it two or three times.

Now to find Mr Darcy... :D

I used to really love Anne too, but the L. M. Montgomery character that I used to relate to even more is Emily Byrd Starr. While Beatrice remains the fictional character that I would be, if I had to make a list of the top ten, Emily would definitely be in there.

Oh, and btw, I once read an online article about how L. M. Montgomery was the tool of Satan.

wendy
26th October 2002, 04:32
Ahh Emily!! I love her so much too. I think those books are better than the Anne books but they were never made into a mini-series thus the reason they get less publicity :) It was very romantic, the chemistry between thall the characters just jumped out of the page, and i don't think I've ever read a more beautiful story of friendship (though I can barely rememeber it, I was 16 when I read it!)

and the tool of satan, gosh. I don't see it.

Elin
26th October 2002, 08:30
Yeah, I like the Emily books as well... (though it was ages since I read them). I love how you really see how Emily grows up - the style is childish in the beginning, but then she grows more mature...
