I've been looking around here, and althought there has been alot of discussion about various books I just find it hard to beleive that no-one has brought up what I consider to be the second best fantasy booksof all time:

The Death's Gate Cycle.

It may be a little less complex than WOT but Haplo is one of the best characters ever drawn up and the series does have on eof the best definitions of evil in it; i.e the Dragonsnakes.

I also think what is great is the idea of the two opposing forces being on the same side and both thinking the other is evil, sort of like the Whitecloaks and the Aes Sedai.

The runes are cool as well.

Who exactly is this series written by? I tried looking for it in book stores while I was out spending my 50 dollar gift certificate, but I never found it, so I just suffered for George R.R. Martin and Robin Hobbs books

Oh man, Death Gate...i read that like ages ago....really awesome series. To answer your question Cypher, it was written by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman (sound familiar, eh, eh). HUGH THE HAND is definitely the coolest guy in the whole series...next to Haplo that is. (also the dog was cool, but that's getting into things) True it is less complex than wot, but i believe that that was one the reasons that i liked it so much. It was a nice, simple, fantasy story. I personally recommend this series to all, because i really enjoyed it, and i promise that you won't be disappointed.

Death Gate Cycle and Rose of the Prophet were excellent series.

But, if you are into sci-fi, the series Margaret Weis wrote alone, the Star of the Guardians, was superior to both fantasy series, in my opinion.

I brought it up because that series, along with the Malorean by Eddings were what got me into fantasy as a whole.

Not WOT though, I saw book 6 in a library and thought the name was cool, so I bought book 1

Alfred was my favorite character, but DGC didn't have enough confrontations in it. Still, it's one of my favorite series.
