Apologies if this has been posted before.

I just finished reading the first book in Robin Hobb's new series "The Tawny Man". The first book is called Fool's Errand. It was VERY good. It reminded me how much I enjoyed her other 2 trilogies. The first was the Farseer Trilogy and the second was the Liveship Traders. I'm re-reading those two trilogies over now. I just wanted to recommend them to anyone looking for a good COMPLETE series. Both trilogies can stand alone. I know several people who refuse to start any unfinished series at this time. I call it RJ Backlash ;-) Anyway, post and let me know if you have read any of these books.

Is this about me and what I said in the chat the other day? hehe, j/k

I'm going to the bookstore today with a 50 dollar gift certificate, I may pick up one of those series, thanks for recommending them.

I am currently on the last book in the "Liveship Traders" series, Ship of Destiny I am practically in love with Robin Hobb...(not like that you fools!) I just really enjoy her writing style. Her characters are also very well thoughtout and intricate. I can't wait to get back into the Farseer line again with the Tawny Man...

I too recomend this author to all who like fantasy!

Now that I've bought the some of Hobb's books, I see where your name comes from viv.

Not that I'll be reading them any time soon, kinda got 8 books lined up in front of them to be read.

Hi Aragorn. How's stuff? You ever come to the chat here? it gets lonely in there. If I can ever manage to put down Royal Assassin, I'll try to come by more often.

I love Robin Hobb's books too... I haven't read Fool's Errand yet, I'm waiting for it to be out in paperback. I really loved the Farseer trilogy, though it was kind of depressing in places. I'm really wondering how she'll continue it after all the stuff that happened to the main character in the first series...

Have you read the Liveship Traders series yet? It takes place in the same world, but a different location. There are some crossover type events. They were VERY good. Fool's Errand had poor Fitz going through hell once again, but some good things happened too. Let me know if you do read them.

Yup, I've read them. I loved the character development... especially the way Malta went from being a totally spoiled brat to actually growing up. Also the way noone was really evil, like in the conflicts of the Vestrit/Haven family. As a reader you really despised Kyle, but he wasn't evil. He was doing his best from his point of view...

I've read both the Farseer Trilogy and the Liveship Traders Trilogy.

I found the Farseer Trilogy to be depressing and melancholy. Throughout the entire book there's no real ups and downs for poor Fitz, and the people's suffering, including the king's.

Even the ending was kind of sad and depressing. What was most frustrating was the lack of interaction between the bad guys and the good guys. You know putting a face to the characters and identifying with them. The raiders were like an invisible force, tangible, but unidentifiable unlike the Liveship Traders Trilogy.

I enjoyed the Liveship Traders Trilogy much more and felt Robin had really done a stunner. I felt Book 3 was kind of rushed. I don't know maybe Robin has a thing with trilogies. There was so much potential to really expand and keep going. It was sad to see it end so soon I was really enjoying the characters. They were so real. I loved watching the characters evolve and change throughout their trials and tribulations.

I liked the farseer series much better than the liveship, maybe I'll take a look at the new one though.

Hey Gangorn, want to elaborate on why you preferred the Farseer Trilogy to the Liveship Traders?:)

When I read the farseer trilogy I was really able to "get into it" I felt more excited about the storyline and such. FOr the liveship traders, the first book was good, but then the series sort of went downhill for me. I wasn't able to really lose myself in those two books. I'll give it another shot next time I go home and grab them. But the first time reading didn't seem that good for me.

I'm somewhere in the middle of the first book of the liveship traders (page 200 or so) and am really enjoying it.

It kinda scared me when in the first chapter they talked about a guy meeting with the Others (after just finishing the first 2 books of a song of ice and fire, kinda made me biased against the Others) and was wondering what they really look like? are they like Sea horses with a fish face and 2 legs? or something else? it may elaborate on them further into the series, but I see no indication of that.

well, seeing as no one's posted here in many hours, I thought I'd just give u something to read.
