After seeing Reign of fire, Fellowship of the ring and Dungeons and Dragons, It is good possiblity that they will seek out more fantasy movies. The Pratchett books of teh Ringwolrd are Movie sized books.

EDIT: i am partial to Vimes and Carrot.

I heard Reign of Fire was pretty fucking crappy, and the Dungeons and Dragons movie was the most god awful...

*have to stop now, gagging*

I'm not saying those movies were good, the CG was though, although D&D was borderline. The CG effects of Reign of Fire were excellent. I liked the movie. I didn't care for D&D.

Good Omens

Actually, they are already making "Good Omens" into a movie. Pratchett and Gaimen are scripting, Terry Gilliam is directing. According to Neil's official website, they are in the midst of another rewrite. There appears to me no big rush, as Gilliam is in the middle of "Hitchhiker's Guide to the galaxy.":)

i havent read any of his books but my friend has this quote by him it was really funny, it was somehting along the lines of:

As funny as Good Omes is, I like the discworld books better.

Aragorn
24th September 2002, 16:21
Discworld is funny, and would make an insanely good series. But for a movie, the stand-alone Good Omens would be better.

it has to be Mort its the only DW book i have managed to read more than once and D&D and reign of fire were the two most unchallengably shit films i have ever seen the acting in both is appalling and the stories in both sukk niether were worthy of being known as film they should be called "crap" wow this has to be the post where ive written the most and sed the least cool

Okay LD. Take a chill Pill. Wot is too large to be a live action movie. IF it was done, it would have to be CG because the actors would age more rapidly than the story progresses. I was asking about Pratchett books since they are short and sweet.

ok. So if I vote to make Terry Hatchet books into a movie I get cookies and brownies?

Never read a TP book, but I'll chime in on the WOT Movie. Pray to the light that NBC forgets that they aquired the rights to tEotW, tGH, and tDR. I've always thought it should be done in hour long animated episodes (think anime) for HBO or something like that, so they don't have to tone down the violence or adult themes. Live action is nice, but Lord of the Rings has been the only book-to-film fantasy translation that has been done right, and that's only because it is a classic, no other work would get the same treatment. WOT is so epic & sweeping that either: A. A lot would get cut. or B. A lot would be done on blue screens. Take look at the wonderf-ck that is Episode II if you think films with tons of CG are good. As for full CG versus Anime... If your talking Final Fantasy: Spirits Within type CG I'm cool, but that took YEARS to do, and that was only like 90min. Were talking at least 90 hours of story to be told with the entire WOT series. While I love Reboot, if you did that "easy" style of CG with the WOT, I would hunt you down and beat you like Prof. Plum in the Billiard Room. If you look at something like Princess Mononoke(sp?), it looks amazing, while still being fairly easy to produce, so the 90+ hours won't need to be cut. I'm done for now, that I've taken the thread WAY off topic.

Good Omens definately. but for the best discworld book to make into film it would have to be Guards, Guards! It'dd be the easiest and cheapeast to produce, with clear character development and plenty of strong sequels. Pterry is meant to have an aful lot of artistic input into any and all dw products, and a film would be right up there with that; so script changes shouldn't be to dire. He'dd be hard to work with though.

Definately Guards Guards, cause Vimes is the best character! :D

*thinks they should make a GRRM movie, except it would probably be R, and be 5 hours long*

*is still amazed that there is actually a fellow wotist from california*

Well I haven't read any of Discworld yet, but you would be amazed at how many times I pass it by at the bookstore. (For the record, a lot) So are they any good? *prepares to be attacked by numerous comments on how good they are* ok don't answer that.

Pth. There are like six of us in Texas.

Just read them Nero, then you'll understand. I say Good Omens would make an excellent movie, though he did write that with neil Gaiman. Also the last continent, that is one of his best yet. Anything with Rincewind and Death and Vimes and Nobby would rule. Yeah I know they don't all feature in a single book at once but maybe TP could write a movie.

It is really amazing that there is another wotist from northern Indiana (the boringest place in the world), and even from the same area as me (south bend/elkhart).

All of Pratchett's books are good (Jingo was the worst), and would be good movies.
*has read every single one of the Discworld series, and most of his other books*
:D

Hmmm. I don't actually like Rincewind as a character. He'ss too one dimentional. Actually, I think the Light Fantastic was the worst book.

talyn rahl
6th December 2002, 08:46
Aww but Rincewinds in all the games and there really good, Rincewinds a great charecter

Mann
6th December 2002, 12:59
The games aren't the books, and Rincewind doesn't develop as a character.

James
7th December 2002, 10:04
He doesn't need to develop, he's incredibly funny

Mann
12th December 2002, 14:29
Not compared to any of the other major characters. And all characters should develop, especially in a parody.

James
13th December 2002, 07:48
I disagree. Rincewind is easily as funny as Vimes, Death and the other majors. And he's funnier than the Witches. Developing is important but not necessary when it's his sitution that develops, rather than his character.

Mann
13th December 2002, 21:14
I don't think we're going to agree on this one. Whilst not my absolute favorites the witches are pretty close. And changing situations should affect a character (at least in some way).

James
14th December 2002, 05:53
I don't know. Homer Simpson never truly develops, (not for more than 1 episode anyway), yet he works brilliantly as a character. And no, we will never agree on this. I have no absolute favourite either, but Rincewind, Vimes and Death all come close.

Mann
14th December 2002, 13:48
Well Vimes, Granny Weatherwax, Death and Ridcully the Brown for me if choosing.

val7
18th December 2002, 14:29
Vimes, Ridcully, Death, Nanny Ogg, Rincewind is ok, and Nobby and Colon (I don't especially like those two, but the way they're described is great) :D

Mann
20th December 2002, 14:12
I think Nobby's a good plot device, but the character isn't really fleshed out. Colon develops quite a bit in the new one, Night Watch; but neither of thems really in the books alot. They're fairly minor characters.

Oh, I like Ventinari alot aswell.

It was a one man, one vote system. Veninari was that mn, with that vote.

Byrn

I'm a Carrot and a Cohen fan. I think a book needs to be written about Cohen himself.

val7
20th December 2002, 19:56
Isn't he one of the main characters in the Last Hero?

James
21st December 2002, 03:35
yeah.

Vetinari rules as well. the world needs people like him

Mann
21st December 2002, 21:06
There are people like Vetinari in power. They're just not well thought of. I identify with him some.
