ok,i am pretty sure that most people think that "lord luc" aka slayer, is lan's brother right?? ok, in one of the early books, it talks about way's to escape even fate. i think that wenever lan's brother was taken in an effort to flee the coming destruction, that his mother promised his soal to the dark one, therfor saving his life, and that way, mabey because he was a dark friend for soo long, mabey he got special powers,(you know, entering the world of dreams at will) and that is why slayer is so dangerus. or mabey, luc(lan's brother) was some evel guy reborn, sorda like fain was possesed by mordeth, luc was possessed by some ancent evil guy! oh well, it probably sounds stupid, but take it for what it is worth.
<BR>p.s. it would be awsome to see a male aiel channel the power, cause, you know how rand can make the sword out of the power, mabey they can make a spear, or some other type of weapon, or a staff(mat would kick butt!)

Being a nitpicking bastard, I feel compelled to point out a little error...
<BR>
<BR>Luc isn't Lan's brother, Luc is Rand's Uncle (mother-brother). Isam is Lan's cousin (father-brother-son).
<BR>
<BR>"...one did live and one did die, but both are"
<BR>
<BR>It is one of the most intereting things to theorise about though, this Luc/Isam paradox!
<BR>
<BR>Did Luc live only to have somehow merged with Isam? Does Isam's soul possess Luc's body as a Schitzofrenic worse half? Do these souls influence each other. I seem to remember from reading "the world according to Luc" in winters heart that one can still see when the other is in controll.
<BR>
<BR>It seems to me, judging from Luc's account, that both are basically evil mean bastards. But IS there some good "wanting to come out" in Luc? He was sent to the mountains of doom by that Aes Sedai (so it's said) because it was his faith and that he had to do it to save his country/for the light. Wow, that is almost the making of phylosopical discussions that! If your destiny is to become evil in order to do good, do you still condem yourself in becomming evil??
<BR>
<BR>I have some sections I need to re-read.

On Isam/Luc... i have a small theory too. I just sorry i don't have the original (in Power of the Shadow I believe), which gave me the idea.
<BR>There Egween goes to Verin, and receives the TAR ring. In start of scene Verin reads an ancient text saying something like:
<BR>"...betrayer of hope, liar, lies beyond lies, a lie is our only hope, he....". And that's all.
<BR>Now. If wew suppose that Luc going to meet his fate(Isam),, has more than just "leave Tigraine alone".......
<BR>Maybe Luc is not so evil, after all, and in TGDhe'll make something unexpected enough, to choose the winner?<BR><BR><font size=-1>[ This Message was edited by: chavv on 2001-06-21 10:31 ]</font>

the whole Luc/Isam bit is a confusing aspect. . . .and very thoroughly a wild card in the series. . .as if much of it weren't. . .but i concur with some of the general stuff being thrown about here. . .Luc did something good in becoming evil/merging with Isam. . .and their actions seem to be malicious in both TAR and the waking world. . . .but whose to say which soul is in control. . .Luc made a BIG and noble sacrifice. . .so maybe he's not such a bad guy. . .Isam just makes him that way. . .
<BR>bah the dark one is capable of all sorts of vileness. . .

I don't know about that, I think that Luc is somewhat evil himself, just not as bad as Isam

Did Luc <i>really</i> go to the Mountains of Dhoom for an altruistic reason? That's what they say, but we don't really know that.
<BR>
<BR>Maybe that AS (what's her name?) <i>tricked</i> him into going, and not because good would come of his being Isam, but because even worse evils would come of his being allowed to stay in Andor.
<BR>
<BR>Isn't it odd that AS convinced Tigraine to a completely different place at about the same time?
<BR>
<BR>The relationship would not be their destinations then, but simply the fact that they both <i>left</i>. Most likely she wasn't trying to get them to certain places; she was just trying to get them out of Andor.
<BR>
<BR>Why?
<BR>
<BR>Rumors were that Taringail was going to kill Tigraine. But I think that, rather, he would simply have her killed. By who? By Luc, of course, her "protector".

i like the luc kill Tigarine idea but the AS had a viewing and specifacaly told Tigarine that if she didn't go to the waste her country(or the world ) was doomed so that is the reason for her departure

mabey the aies sedai threatened luc w a major booty woopin if he didn't go. and, mabey the soals combined, and in ter(cough) isaam's "personality" is domannt. mabey it is like padin fain, with part of him the same, and the other part just different, not a different person, just changed.

Or maybe the PROMISED some major "booty woopin" if he agreed, who knows...
<BR>
<BR>
<BR>Maybe Luc is really a double agent who has to endure to do bad things to fool the communists....errr...the Dark One, but that he's really a good guy and all that...and he has to do a really good job at it, since he has to fool the Isam part of himself too. It ain't that easy to lie convincingly to yourself and get away with it!

<BR> The Relation Between Luc and Isam
<BR> Mike Nimchek<mikenim@mindspring.com> (Friday, November 17, 2000 - 2:50 am)
<BR>
<BR> Prior to Winter's Heart, I was of the belief that Luc really didn't exist anymore, except as a body-shell. Luc's soul, I thought, was dead, and Isam had as it were possessed him.
<BR>
<BR> Chapter 22 makes it clear that I was wrong. Luc *thinks* to himself, "That had been Isam, not him, but the memories were none the less prized for that. Neither of them got to kill an Aes
<BR> Sedai very often."
<BR>
<BR> This passage implies that Luc and Isam possess *distinct* souls or consciousnesses, yet *shared* memories.

I just need something cleared up for me. Isn't Luc Elayne's uncle as well? Making her and Rand cousins?
Jacob

Nope. As that Lady (umm...Elenia or some such?) tells Rand, had they been "peasants", noone would have considered them family at all, the ties were so far back in time. Rand, the somewhat letcherous Dragon Rebord, was abit worried about that himself, that's why he asked.
