I once, long ago, saw a hylarious post on the Web about an abridged version of tEotW which wasn't quite true to the original. I cannot describe it any better, so I'll just quote a line from the story such that anyone who actually read it will know what I mean:
In Fal Dara, the men yell out: "Dai Shan! Dai Shan!"
Nyneave asks Lan, "What does that mean?"
Lan replies, "I don't know. Some honorific."
A man looks down at the soles of his feet.
"Oh man, I just stepped in a pile of Dai shan."
Its funnier in the original, er the original abridged version. Trust me. :)
