Well, we're in the process of setting up a goodie, including the memberpics thing.

What are we talking about? Ok, well, what we are talking about is a member gallery. It includes the member pics, although that's not visible unless you're logged in, and no you can't login just yet.

But besides the member pics there's also personal galleries where you can show off whatever you want to show off. And yes, that is visible to the world

However, we're not sure what the rules should be, so we need a little help.

What's possible?
Well, once you have your own gallery, you can upload pics to it and create subfolders, change titles and descriptions. Basically, you're in charge then.

Some things though we're thinking about though:
* diskspace: what would be fair to allow each person to upload?
* who gets one, who don't: while it's nice to make a gallery for just anybody who signs up here, maybe we shouldn't. How to deal with that?
* anything else: well, things we didn't think off, so suggestions, ideas, and so on.

Besides that it's obvious that thou shallt not upload copyright protected pics, or porn, or anything abusive, shocking, and all that kind of legal stuff.

What's more, the member gallery thing is/will be also used for, umm, experimenting with some stuff. If you notice anything odd, check here if there's some info about it.

So, speak up. What do you think?

well, i like it mike, but i dont know anything about disk space and the like so cant help ya there! :blush:

maybe you should say lke, people have to post a certain number of times a week or something like that to be eligible for a page.

I know you meant well, but that could only result in a post war to gain eligiblity, and we don't want to bring those back, definitely not. Though it's good that you're trying to think up ideas :)

Good work Mike (even though it basically makes my page obsolete now :mad: ) I knew it would happen eventually - but not this quick. Anyway, it should pretty much be for anyone who wants one - that is a wotism member. Though the admins have final say of course. It would look a little funny for a brand new person to request one, though 8/10 times it would probably be nothing wrong, just those 2 would abuse it for hotlinking, etc.

Diskspace - how much do you have allocated for the entire thingy...once I know that, we can better determine how much one would get - who knows, not many people might put stuff up, so would it be fair to limit someone to say 1 MB who puts up a lot of "good" stuff (wot pics, personal pics of themself, wot friends, etc) when there are those who don't put up anything at all, and just waste the space even though they asked for a section and keep that 1 MB blank.

Who gets one, who don't - Well as you said there needs to be ground rules placed. Wotism isn't to become a place where one could store anything and everything, it isn't to be used to hotlink, etc. Wotism isn't to be used for offensive material, etc - most of the rules can probably be created by just using common sense.

Well we would block hotlinking...errr...aren't we already? One thing that strikes is of course that some people would sign up simply for the chance to get a personal gallery free of ads. And Word of Mouth is a powerful way to "advertice". Basically, only wotists should get one of these gallery's and I to me, that means someone who is recognised as a wotist, not just anyone who posts a certain number of posts or is a member for a month. So I guess a kind of "case by case" bases for granting these things. And if someone sneaks in with abuse, some wotist should notice fairly quickly I hope...

I don't know, I like the pictures of members, but I think the rest is, while bold and original, too likely to open a can of worms that would negatively impact the site. Of course if you dead set on this, I'd suggest 2-5 megs per person with an application for you to approve individuals so that only wotists that have proven themselves can take advantage of it.

A can of worms? No, no, no gwinna, don't tel me you don't like my holiday pics?!

Ofcourse strange things would happen, and maybe we would have to wave a finger at someone sometime, but that's not the issue.
The issue is that people get a chance to share those pics that they really like to share. And that can range from holidyay pics and pets to non-WoT art, and everything in between.

Besides the member pics thing and the member galleries there can be and will other galleries (and if anyone can think of one, let us know, hehe)

5 MB would be too much. If we skip Jacob's wotist rule and base the number on 400 people then we're talking about 2GB, which is a bit much. 400 isn't likely to happen, but we are still growing every day ;)

Rules hmmm pretty tough.

Maybe some1 must be made admin of those pic pages so there is some control on what is posted and what not :p :D

And i think the Jacob's Wotist Rule a.k.a. JWR ( :rolleyes: ) is a pretty good idea or maybe a timebased membership, i mean something like that you have to be member for a month and/or a number of posts something like that.

Sorry, didn't know that wotism already blocked hotlinking (never tried so i didn't know)

But yeah Your JWR is a pretty good idea. Again about file size....while 5mb is prolly too big, 1 is too small (space very few good quality/size pics) How bout a base number - such as say, 2-2.5 mb, and then the wotist could then, if they so desired more space, ask an admin for it, and if they were granted it, so be it.

Yes someone would be needed to be put in charge of this section.
And I also agree that not all members of the forum should get a folder off the bat. the regular joes can get 2 or 3 mb off the bat and then expand from there on a "oh oh oh i want too" basis.

I dont think that many will use it and we can keep it narrowed to wotism/discussion/fan stuff only or something.

no, no, no SD....that's what i was talking about....the super creatures were from as you know a snapping turtle, and the other, a wolf(i think) Hence for me to turn into one of those crazy mutated creatures I would have to be either a wolf or a snapping turtle.

And what i meant was that since i am neither (just a regular turtle thank you very much :p ) it would have the same effect as turning me into a TMNT. Clearer now?
