Darkness sat hard across the land,
Silence at every turn.
Light went out with a resounding crash,
A flame that no longer burned.

The village folk gathered in quiet thought;
Melodies replayed in each mind.
No one could know how Lady Life,
In her turn, would souls intertwine.

Just a few days, some hours that passed,
A light would come to view.
A new song rang across the land,
A legend begun anew.

One cry echoed across a stage,
One rang throughout the hall.
One life touched another,
And surely will touch us all.

Darkness sat hard across the land,
Life in a new heart burns.
One life gives to another,
And the flame forever burns.

Short explanation - just buried a good friend, one of the most talented musicians I've ever known, right before my grandson was born.
Thanks for the response. (And there is NO method to my madness...)

On this site we "speak" in "threads." If you consider that, before the mechanical age, candles were created on long wicks, one after the other, then separated to burn their own flames, one can safely compare life to that. One thread, separated into many different units, to burn their own flame. In effect, the thread that we are cut from serves only to allow us to burn. We must find our own flame. Sometimes the joy merely comes from the burning... from being alive... from being us. I hope that you all are happy with your "flame." Many thanks for the responses. And, nightfairy, it's all worth it in the long run, and being you (being "cool" with yourself) is a great, great prize.
