amber = fool !!!

wow... so what's the deal with the sex change? i read fool's errand before the liveship traders books.. so it was interesting to read with the knowledge of lord golden as a parallel to amber. course it took mad ship before the resemblences became more than mere similiarities. so fitz is her/his true love eh? so could the return of fitz's long lost love be the fool instead of molly?

Ok, I've read the Farseer thriology and now I've ordered the Tawny Man (first book), can anyone say if it is as good as the Farseer thriology?

wow i got into this late. by now there are 3 books out in the second trilogy, and I find that its really good. Finally Fitz has a real life. the farseer trilogy was ok but the guy had NOTHING going for him. Poor fitz... anyway, now he has a job and whatnot, and hes out on a quest with "his" kid, who is both Witted and Skilled

anywhat, there was no sex change with the fool. the fool is genderless, so far as I know. He played as a male in the Farseer trilogy, but there was a point where Fitz asks him "are you a guy or a girl" and the fool kisses him on the mouth. And the fool always says that he/she "loves" fitz, which may or may not be agapic. I just assume that the fool is a completely different being. Doesn't have to be human, does it?

I really enjoyed this series, and I think the Tawny Man may be as good, but I when I read the farseer, i was Fitz's age, and I could really relate to him, and I can't wait to read the tawny man when I'm 30, and see if i still relate

I feel bad for you then. In the first book, Fitz had nothing going for him

WOOHOO

the third book is out :D

And the great part is: It's published in Dutch before it is published in English, and the US will have to wait untill next year. Call me childish, but I don't care, it's sweet revenge. I'm still waiting for CoT to be translated.

edit: mhh, can't seem to get this link to work :(

Care to switch? I'd much rather have FF than CoT.

is Robin Hobb the guy that wrote all those things with ship in the title?

Corvus Corax
17th August 2003, 09:52
No, she's the woman who wrote those ;)

Aaaaawwww, sorry Val, I'll send it over when I'm done with it ;) , you might want to learn some Dutch first though.

thx for that btw, it makes the fact that I'm still waiting for CoT to strugle through a bit more bearable.

well, I finished Fool's Fate on friday. And I must say that it's a strange ending for me, not bad, but strange ;) . Of course I'm not going to elaborate on that.

Some stuff was a bit forced imho, but I liked it. After reading Hobb, I always realise I'll never be an author, since I could never achieve the same level of character depth as her.

btw, the cover drawing is wrong again

I got an answer to almost all the questions I had, although it's not all stated in print.

Anyway, I'll miss Fitz
I doubt he'll be appearing again after this ending.

Robbin Hobb = addictive torment

If you want some answers or spoilers, just pm me, and I'll try to answer any questions as good as I can.

What, Robin Hobb is Dutch?!? But, it says on the cover that she was born in California... *is confused*

Anyway... I must say I find the first trilogy to be the better one. I dunno, it just moved me more. I've read Fool's Errand, and I'm halfway through The Golden Fool. And I have the fourteenth reservation on Fool's Fate when it arrives at the library. :(

Also, I must be completely ruined by my anime and manga fandom... I mean, the Fool is such a bishounen and this is really an angsty shounen-ai drama. :) Just imagine the anime version of this... *drools* Ahem. Pity Fitz seems to be so completely heterosexual. Oh well, I haven't finished the books yet, so I'll wait to pass judgement on what's happening... I mean, Amber pretty clearly seemed to be a woman in the Liveship books.

no, she isn't Duth, but for some reason I don't know, she's published in Dutch before she's published in the US.

And I liked the first triology better as well, not saying that this isn't a good one either, just not as good.

As far as the gender of the fool is concerned: imo, it is deductable in this last book. I'm not an anime fan (because I've only seen Ghost in the shell, which I liked btw, but I'm just not drawn to it), so I can only guess what a bishounen is, but I doubt the Fool is.

so I can only guess what a bishounen is, but I doubt the Fool is.

A bishounen is a beautiful, often androgynous boy or young man. Isn't that the Fool in a nutshell? :)

Fool's Fate has also been out in the UK for about a month or so if you don't want to wait until February for it to come out in the US. I didn't want to wait so I ordered it from Amazon UK.

anyone else who's read shaman's crossing?

I personally found it to be quite different from any other fantasy I've read (not that I read a lot anymore). Don't really know what to think of it really, appart that I kinda liked it.

How weird. I just happened to buy the Farseer trilogy the day this thread gets revived. So far i'm halfway into Assassins Apprentice, and it's proving to be a page turner alright. When I finish this trilogy i'll have to go buy Liveship and Tawny Men books too.

Yeah im e-reading them..though the tawny man series is the best I think.

The shamans crossing. Iv seen it in the shops but havent bought it. Im afraid to in case it is shit or i dont like the characters as much. Is it as good as her other books??

I know the feeling, but I think it's pretty good. Certainly a departure from the Farseer series (serii?), and intriguing in its own way. Having said that, its one of those books you have to see how events pan out to say whether its good or not. (IMO)

Eolyn

Ok you read it and let me know if it gets good.

I ahven't read Sahman's crossing yet. I'm almost afraid to in case it sucks. I've loved all of her books so far. I'm rereading the Assassin books right now. Maybe after I've finished them I'll take a chance on the new series.
