Who is the only Aes Sedai to be mentioned by name in The Eye of the World other than Moiraine and Elaida.
Hint: It is not Suian Sanche, she is only mentioned as "The Amyrlin Seat".
I am new to this board so I do not know if a trivia post like this exists, but I am all for starting one; I love this kind of stuff.
Yudi

I don't know if this is what you meant, but my guess is Eldrene ay Ellan ay Carlan. She was the queen of Manatheren during the Trolloc wars.
Of course, if you really want to get technical, Lews Therin is mentioned by name as well.
Berk
7th November 2001, 23:47
There is NO way you knew that from memory.
But, anywho, no, I meant a living Aes Sedai.
shinote
8th November 2001, 00:22
is it verin???
Berk
8th November 2001, 00:45
Nope. :)
Verin is not mentioned until Fal Dara in book two.
Sorry. :)
BTW, there doesnt't have to be one question on the table at any given time. The gauntlet has been thrown down. I challenge everyone. :)
Just indicate which question you are answering at any given time.

It's gotta be Sheriam I think Moraine said her name when tell Eqwene she was Mistresses of Novices in the White Tower,
magatsu17
8th November 2001, 01:16
OK i got one, what was the name of the inn Rand and Mat stayed at in Four Kings in book one?
GWINNA
8th November 2001, 16:14
Who was the first Forsaken to swear to The Dark One?
it wasn't Lanfear.
magatsu17
8th November 2001, 18:30
It was Ishmeel(sp) I think, it was in the guide i believe.

I could have sworn it's Ishmeel(sp) but I could be wrong, then maybe Mesanna(sp) damn these forsaken name's are hard to spell.
GWINNA
9th November 2001, 13:24
I thought it was either Semerage or Grendael
magatsu17
11th November 2001, 01:22
I think Semirhage is right, or Ishmeel. My gut still tells me it was him first. I mean it only makes since since him and Lanfear where the most powerful. And he seems to me Rand's Nemisis. him and Padan Fain.

13th November 2001, 19:10
ok, people are losing interest, what's the answer, and now for another question...
magatsu17
13th November 2001, 21:34
Nobody even tried to answer my question, does this mean I'm the king of useless Wot trivia??
Mat and Rand stayed at the Dancing Cartman in Four kings.
Hahaha I rule.

14th November 2001, 22:33
Ishamael - "certainly was among the first to pledge himself to the Shadow, possibly the first"
Other Forsaken were also listed as "among the first" but only Ishy is said to possibly BE the first
Jacob
15th November 2001, 11:52
The Correct answer is Anya...not the correct spelling perhaps though. That innkeeper in Baerlon is told to send her a letter after his inn is burnt down and she'd send him enough to rebuild.
And yep, totally from memory did that come:-)

FINALLY! THANK YOU THAT WAS DRIVING ME CRAZY ALL DAY!
Berk
15th November 2001, 19:55
Ummm, no. The circumstances are correct, but it was, in fact, Sheriam.
Question 2) What was the name of the man Rand stepped on when he took refuge on Bayle Domon's boat and where did that man appear later in the series? :)
QuirkyTemplate
17th November 2001, 17:37
I dont remember his name, but I know it's the darkfriend dude that sells them out to a fade later on down the road when their in that one Inn. I suck with names ....
Berk
17th November 2001, 21:58
Well, he doesn't appear again in book 1 other than in the inn in Whitebridge where he spreads rumors (not what I was referring to as the time we see him again) but there is no evidence at all that he is a darkfriend.

Jacob
18th November 2001, 03:01
I was sure it was Anya. But I know that other guy atleast, that was Floran Gelb ~nods~. He is next seen in the story in TSR when he's in Tanchico trying to sell Nynaeve to Egianin claiming that they are escaped Sul'dam.
She's gold I tell you, Gold!
Berk
18th November 2001, 09:04
Excellent! Good memory.
Question 3)
Mat and Bergitte have a long discussion in Ebou Dar completely in the Old Tongue with Mat not even realizing it. What is the first conversation Mat has in the Old Tongue without realizing it in the series?
Jacob
18th November 2001, 09:44
Errr....are we talking just a few words or something? Talking to himself? Was it before the "raid" to Caemlyn? Oh! I think I know! In the White Tower, when he was being "separated" from the Dagger! Or...something earlier? Surely you can't count when he was Shouting that bit about Caldazar...El'ayene...or something (about the Honour of the Red Eagle...For the Rose of the Sun. The rose of the Sun) early on in TEOtW because that wasn't really a conversation..and he knew that he had spoken those words afterwards.
Soo...?
magatsu17
19th November 2001, 00:36
You said conversation in the old toungue, well that has to be when he goes through the first twisted door way in Tear. Cause Rand and Moraine had to have traslators cause they spoke the old toungue, but Mat never needed one.
Haha I still rule
Berk
19th November 2001, 00:46
Wow! Your'e good, I'll have to step up the difficulty a notch.
Yes, Jacob, by conversation, I specifiacally meant more than just a few words that one person says, whether or not anyone understands. Magatsu got it right, it was through the doorway.
Question 4)
In book 6, Pedron Niall hangs a boy and his uncle in front of Morgase with the count of being darkfriends. Were they?
magatsu17
19th November 2001, 00:54
They were people who where trying to help Morgase escape, but I don't remeber reading any thing in there that would be proof that they are darkfriends. I thought that Nail did it to prove to Morgase she had no escape.
so I say nope they aren't darkfriends, just people trying to help their queen and paid for it with thier lives.
Berk
19th November 2001, 08:03
Finally, I got you!!!!
The boys name was Paitr. Morgase mentioned he looked like he had a broken nose at one point in his life and also caught that he was trying to make up for some failure on his part earlier in life somewhere in Andor.
Think back to book 1. Is there anyone in book 1 that Rand punched in the nose, named Paitr, in Andor, that was a darkfriend?
Berk
20th November 2001, 23:10
Meanwhile, question 5)
With Morgase's entourage is a street tough named Lamgwin and his girlfriend Breanne. Before Morgase's escape in book 5, where had we seen Breanne before?
Jacob
21st November 2001, 00:31
At a party at the Damodred mansion in Cahirien (TGH), she was flirting (sorto) with Rand, before he was "saved" by going to talk to Thom. I believe that Thom's words about her then was that she could "give a man a lesson such as every man should have in a life (if he could survive it)". Or some such:)
Berk
21st November 2001, 22:19
Good! Good!
I always thought that was one of my better questions but you got it right away. So, try this on for size.
question 6) What was the first name of the six fingered man in the princess bride? (I know! this isn't WoT, but I couldnt think of any other good questions right now.)
magatsu17
22nd November 2001, 17:30
Patir, Ohh my god RJ is the Man.
I never even thought about that, I never even noticed that. And Breane, I new that one either.
I don't remeber the Six fingered mans name, even though I just saw that movie the other day. owell

Berk
29th November 2001, 14:21
Tyrone it is! Excellent
Question number 7)
How did Rand come by the two markings on his palms?
Archbishop
29th November 2001, 15:10
The first came from Ishamael channeling fire at him in the Portal Stone world, and the second from his battle with Ishamael above Falme.
Jacob
29th November 2001, 17:53
Okay...since that's correct...
What are Cairhien's equalent of wisdom's called? (i.e. the man/woman with the herbs etc.)

magatsu17
24th December 2001, 21:37
Well I won't let this thread die, so I have a question,
What was the name of the horse that Rand rode out of the Two Rivers?
Berk
25th December 2001, 00:57
Hmmm, I think it was Red, the horse none of the others wanted.
I tried to stay away from names and places for my questions but I cannot think of any so I'll do the same:
Question: Other than Mandarb, what horse has Lan ridden?
magatsu17
25th December 2001, 21:30
sorry dude, your wrong, Red is the horse Rand rode of Sheinar in book 2. As for Lan, I think the horses name was Cloud Dancer, either way it was in that story RJ did for that Legend book.
Meyley
26th December 2001, 02:34
cloud - cos he was grey
magatsu17
26th December 2001, 10:30
That's correct, Now I have another one, What was the name of the Inn they stopped at in Baerlon?
Berk
22nd January 2002, 20:11
The Stag and Lion Inn.
And yes, it was cloud dancer, the horse Lan rode in Legends.

I'm not 100% sure on this one myself, but -
When was the first time balefire was used in the series?
Theoban
2nd February 2002, 05:52
Nyneave uses it when she and Elayne are captured in book 3. She uses it and doesn't know what it is.
Berk
2nd February 2002, 18:47
Nynaeve never used balefire; the only one of the three who channeled at all when captured was Egwene in the world of dreams.
As for balefire, I know Moiraine uses it a few times in book 3, but so does Rand at one point. I am not sure which one did it first chronologically.
Mike
2nd February 2002, 19:52
I believe it was Moiraine who was the first in the series...
Psinyde
3rd February 2002, 05:41
Thats what i was wondering.
In tEotW when they are trying to escape Machin Shin in the Ways, Moiraine uses something described as bright, white hot bar of flame, which is similar to how b/f is described i think. She uses it to burn a hole in the Waygate, and the reason i think it might be b/f is becasue she had said a couple of time before that almost nothing was powerful enough to destroy a waygate, but surley the most deadly use of the one power in WoT would be an exeption...
I know the way the Waygate is destroyed doesn't seem like b/f (the sparkling motes and all that), but im not sure weve ever really seen an [I]object destroyed by b/f, only people. And the bar of flame is also corrupted by the evil of the Ways, so that could have something to do with it...
I'm not really sure myself that she used b/f, just an idea...

in tgh, moiraine uses b/f to kill the darkhounds that sammael sent after the party following rand on their way out of illian. first time that rings a bell in my head. i even remember her talking about it afterwards. someone asked, and i think she said something like if anyone in the tower knew i could do this, i'd be stilled.

i have a stumper :D
in the great hunt, moiraine and lan go visit two retired sisters adeleas and vandene, while moiraine is trying to find information that will help her lead rand. while there, their warder/handyman is inspired by the sight of lan to quit being just a handyman and start practicing his forms. good thing for moiraine that he did. now, the questions. #1, what was this warder's name? #2, why was it a good thing that he started practicing with his sword again for moiraines sake?
good luck.:D
Buckweet
3rd March 2002, 23:09
Well, the I remember that scene quite well.. Its all the talk on why Vandene is a blcak....good theories there...
Anyway... The warder's name is Jaem...and Moraine was lucky he had his sword out, b/c she was attacked by a drakhar and it took both Lan and Jaem to kill it.
the Great Hunt is my favorite book:p
Here's another,....
What was the name of Moraines original horse?
Berk
3rd March 2002, 23:46
jaem also appears again in books 6 to 9 in salidar, ebou dar, and caemlyn with the girls.
as to her first horse, if you mean in the series, its aldieb (westwind); if you mean chronoligically, its Arrow.

Buckweet
4th March 2002, 22:35
hmmm...this is kinda of a trick question.
Birgitte is from many lands one for each life she lived...remember she is a hero bound to the wheel. She knows all kinds of wierd phrases and what have you...from the seafolk...borderlands...etc.
So the answer I guess, is that Birgitte has been around;)
Ok, Ill give you kudos for getting Susa, I honestly didnt think you would get that one.

....ok the a'dam, ...this is an easy one...quick reference to the big white book...
*sigh*
and I quote(p.159)
"the first a'dam was made by an Aes Sedai, Deain, who brought it to Luthair Paendrag to curry favor with him. ..."
in the end it says
"... For her troubles deain was rewarded with imrosonment by her own device. ..."

~Jeopardy music~~
supuradam
7th March 2002, 16:50
lets see.... falcon is faile... or at least i hope... sort of what she is since book 3, on the boat heading to tear. the first time we really see her fight, is when berelain leaves perrin's bedchambers, and she chases after him. so i'm going to have to say that the answer to this one is berelain. she "taught the falcon how to use its claws" when she tried to lay hands on perrin, which pissed faile off, and made her go after her... close?
Buckweet
7th March 2002, 18:09

8th March 2002, 19:51
Well if they snap like twigs or melt like butter, you've just described most ter'angreal, angreal and sa'angreal. Even the Choeden Kal.
Is it the Gholam though? As they cannot be hurt by Aes Sedai, and can move to any form, including melting and snapping.

Confirmed...has to be ter'angreal.
I cant think of anything else.
Snaps like twigs...(the hedgehog ter'ang. that Faile was trapped in)
melts like butter, [the key for the choden Kal (sp?)]
more destructive than and army, more powerful than an Aes Sedai,... again the Choden Kal,....(can challenge even the creator)
I cant think of anything better...is that anygood?
ps- The sword in my signature does seem cheezy at times but it is what I have used since the old .org board and Im kinda of too nostalgic to change it:D

9th March 2002, 13:28
Eh, i like my answer better for the snapping/melting one. It isn't exactly WoT, but it works if you think a little bit. I didn't think it could be ter/sa/angreals because on their own, they aren't really more powerful than anything.

lol. thanks judges... i'd like to thank myself. and... no one else.
As with a Fade, you can not see it or hear it but it is always there.
It has slain more humans than all shadowspawn.
It puts kings on thrones and takes them off.
It raises mountains, then watches them crumble.
It fills oceans, then drys them up.
However, for all the evil it does, it is the one thing Rand cannot get enough of.
(*hint* it has nothing to do with the power ^^)
