Curious if anyone have a prediction about Padan Fain's future roll in the upcoming books.
Personally I think he tripps and accidently cuts himself on that firetrucking dagger.

Fain already cut himself on the dagger, it doesn't affect him

I beleive that Fain will play an important role at the end of the series, but I also think his cameo appearences are contrived, and unpleasent. When the Moraigne lookalike took Rand to the tent, and a fog swallowed everybody up and started "eating people" (exageration), all I could think was not again.
But I think we have a Tolkein Type Parallel with Fain. Now, I read TLOTR a couple years ago, and even with the movies coming out, I haven't reread the book to refresh myself (Electrical Engineering is a time consuming degree, its a long book, bla bla, bla bla...).
But Fain is really similar to that Gollum guy, he even kind of looks like him, short, skinny (concentration camp, nasty, see your ribs through your skin kinda skinny) (maybe not that skinny), and both have multiple personalities (I am a God, save me I'm a pitiful wretch).
And the clincher, drum role please, they both have their own "presious" Gollum's got his ring, Fain has his dagger.
As much as we can hope that RJ just forgets to write Fain into any of the future books, I think Fain will play an even bigger role, the closer we get to the end (full circle kinda thing, start with Fain, end with Fain).
But what happens to him now that RJ has done his "Wish we could do it to Iraq" manuver, pushing his little red button and turning SL into a giant hole in the ground. Is F/M/O only F/O or is he now F/M or M/O or does he have a new personality sprung up from the tramatic experience, or, could you imagine Fain on the Jerry Springer Show, or Oprha.

Why does the DO have a name? The creator doesn't have a name that we have ever heard... so why does the DO get one?
More importantly are the points of who named him and how did anyone ever hear what his name was to pass it on? Did the DO have a Mother and Father? Was there a time when he was on a first name basis with someone who told all of his other friends about the DO's real name? I doubt it. Well, I doubt it if he has alwasy gone be the alias of The DARK One.
Oh wait, we were talking about Fain here, right? Well we all know Fain's name... Because he is human... but a special human since he has a power that seems to work in direct contrast to the power of the DO. That is another problem. if the DO is the father of all evil, then how can an evil exist that he doesn't spawn? Wierd, huh?
OK, ready for whack theory #69821456?(At least I am pretty sure that is how many are out there)
The current DO was once a human just like you, me and Padan Fain... Well techincally you and I are more real since this is just a story, but you get my point...
The DO was born as a person and grew into a real evil bastard. Probably when the then current do was named Lucifer or something similar... Something bad happened like the DO at the time broke free from his prison and was defeated... Shai Tan(SP) was in a position to take his place and became the new DO. and started the cycle over... until now... I think Padan Fain is being set up to be in that same position and the current DO is gonna mess up by trying to take over all of creation and expose himself and be defeated by Rand and co and Fain will be there to take his place.

Yes, TimGoldenboots, that is a good post. Well, the parts that weren't rambling about the origin of the Dark One's name anyway.
RJ has said he knew how it would end, well Fain has been there from the beginning, hasn't he? It's especially interesting that this is so, when many of the major villains (Forsaken) weren't even named at the first print of the earlier books. I am now thinking that the grand showdown will involve him somehow.

Billions and Billions of years ago all the matter in the universe was collected in one space, though this is misleading because there was no space. At t=0+, there was a shift, a big bang as it were, and there was a Creator, who was instantly known as "The Creator", and there was a Dark one who was instantly known as "the Dark One" aka "Shy SunTan". We can say instantly because the rate of progression was so fast (so fast=greater than by a factor of 10) in comparison with the frame of reference that any error would so F'in small that is wouldn't matter. The wheel of time was already turnin', this was a beginning, but there are neither beginning nor....
The Dark One was on a first name basis with several people (I know this for a fact, therefore it is undisputable), in time, he came into a posision not unlike Vito Corleone, and gave everyone an offer they couldn't refuse, never speak my name again or else.
As to whack theory #69821456 The Dark One could have been human, not likely but possible, and if so GW will probalby say O'sama was\is the Dark One in some past\future age and declare a War on Randland Terroism, and nobody wants that.
But your right about Fain being set up for something, though I don't think it's to be another DO. Maybe to be a host\body or proxy or (Ishy wannabe\could be your replacement\you done a good job for us but your slippin and this guy shows promise\were downsizing and Fain's taking over your department) some other character to fight Rand in the DO stead.

As sound as the DO being destroyed and a new DO taking his place... say Fain or SH, I dont think that will happen.
Ishamael says that the DO has tried to turn Rand almost as much as he tried killing him...right??... well... I think this sort of implies that DO is here to stay so he can fight Rand lookalike #1234567890 yet once again.
Also, I think that your t=0+ theory is great and all...but that is a theory in real life in our universe...in Randland, there is no beginning or end.....blah blah blah...
:D Ok, now for my Fain theory, I believe it is quite obvious that after the series is over , Rand will be dead, and the only thing left of Nynaeve will be a hair braid. I think he will go back to peddling for pots, pans and various Jain Farstrider journey books:rolleyes:

i try not 2 think 2 much bout these things, like 2 let em run their course, but, i think wutever happens, fain'll die. if not slowly & painfully, by balefire. @ least, that's how it SHOULD happen.

It would be good to let Fain just die off, but in the Best of All Possible Worlds RJ would just happen to forget to write him another camio, and he will misteriously be absent for the rest of the series (from that Merlin movie, "when we are forgotten, we cease to exist"). Let's all just forget Fain, and maybe he won't be in the next book.
If that doesn't happen, well anyway......
The never ending battle is between Rand and Ishi, but Rand has to die after beating the Dark One in some form or fashion, and the Dark One will get his own in some way, ala counterstroke or some such. But who's to say Rand has to win in some hand to hand combat with Moridin. Maybe he does fight Moridin, but insures victory by maniplating events elsewhere at the same time, or by Fain steping in some where and botching things up.
Maybe the DO comes close to winning, Rand living through the battle and all, the pattern's almost broken, and low and behold, Fain pots out of the air, a strange fog surrounds everybody, Fain kills Rand (Finally), the weird bond the DO created causes Fain to go into seisures at the moment of his death (Fade type thing), Fain crokes, the fog dissappears, the sun is shinning, whalla!!!!, twice dawns the day!!!!
Sorry about the run on sentence. No, wait, I don't care, I write any way I want to.
