I just got finished reading pillars of creation, And I was a lil dissappointed. All the books have been about Richard, but this he isn't even the main character, Jessen is. I like her and am glad of the addtion of her to the story, but I while I was reading I kept thinking, where is Richard at. While the book is a good read, I find it hard to really like of Sword of Truth book when Richard doesn't even come into the book till page 499, and the book has about 560 pages.

I just got done posting my disappointment in another thread, I wanted to talk about but didn't want to spoil things.
Whew! How disappointing was that book!
I mean Richard was in one little chapter for 15 minutes the most!
I'm not one to down a character but who the hell cares about knowing so much about a sister whom isn't one of the main characters.
Even Zorander and OHHH I forgot her name UMMMM the blind sorceress, dammit, you guys know who I'm talking about; they weren't even in a full chapter.
And of all things, were the letters big enough to read. It took me three days and a few hours to get through the whole disappointing book.
I sure hope the next one is better!

Yeah i finished the book about two weeks ago, and boy was I dissapointed as well. I mean, i bought the book assuming that Richard would, naturally, be the main character and do some major whooping up on the enemy...but noooo, it's all about some poorly misguided girl, who magically at the end figures everything out and switches her alliance to the man she was so hell bent on killing...just seems a little far fetched to me, that's all. It wasn't a bad book, but i feel as if i was cheated out of my money and time because it wasn't up to SoT par level.
That whole book could probably been condensed and sold as one of those mini novels like the "debt of bones" one TG did for Adie (the blind sorceress), and saved his next novel for something of better quality.
Yeah i think Zedd, Kathlin, and Richard (not to mention Gratch...where are you grrrrrrrraaatttccchh!!!) were all cheated outta their rightful "time in the spotlight" in this book, I mean hey, they're suppose to be the MAIN characters in the whole series.

I've read all of the Terry Goodkind books up to Faith of the Fallen, but I stopped after that one (why did the bad guys in it have to be communists?--well, they weren't exactly communists, but that's the feel you got from it--the communist bad guy concept has been DONE...and done..and done...). They're okay, but I like RJ better.
My personal favorites amoung the fantasy world are Laurell K. Hamilton (sex, violence, and soul-searching amoung the un-dead, plus a vampire even cooler than Lestat), RJ (of course), J.K. Rowlings (yes I know it's juvenile, but I still love it), and Terry Pratchett. Mercedes Lackey and Andre Norton are also good.
I also just discovered the Rhapsody, Prophecy, Destiny, trillogy by Elizabeth Hayden. It's really great (even though the female main character does end up marrying the wrong guy). There's time travel, political chicanery, evil demonic monsters who want to destroy the world, and a great painful love triangle. Also, Achmed the Snake, the ex-assassin who tracks down his victims by listening to their heartbeats, is just about the coolest bad-ass character I've ever seen.

I haven't read Pillars of Creation...and I'm not really in a hurry to do so. I stopped reading the SoT series after Temple of the Winds. it was ok...but the books were just so familiar and got old really fast. After a few years without reading them (although I loved Wizard's First Rule) I picked up Soul of the Fire and Faith of the Fallen. Soul of the Fire was decent, but I liked Faith a lot better. While the Communist/Anti-Communist thing has been done before...it was a definate turning point in the series. It wasn't the same stuff regurgitated. SoT still isn't one of my favorite series, and probably will be nothing more than something to pass my time while waiting for better books to come out by other people but Faith is the reason I'll end up reading Pillars of Creation even when I hear horrible reviews on it. Actually I thought I heard Goodkind had stopped at book 5 and wasn't working on any more and I thought it was a good idea. But apparently I was wrong ;)

Yeah he orginally signed a contract to stop at 5 books, but he just lately redid another contract...went to his website and found out.
Yeah, I must admit, even though TG as a whole is a good author, his books are really nothing more than filler for the next WOT, or SoIF book. Esp. considering, you can only reread the wheel of time so many times before you actually start thinking that you are apart of Randland...

Sorry. The message I posted above was vaguely Terry Goodkind related, but I really had intended to post it on the "recommended books" thread. (that's why it may seem a bit off topic). My bad.

One of the thing I've always liked in any series I've read, is how others view the Main chacters, and while you do get a good third person prespective of Richard from his sister, when you don't have richard in a Sword of Truth book, it's really lacking. That why the best ones are Wizard's First Rule, A Stone of Tears, and Faith of the Fallen. It's because Richard is the main focus of those books, Not Kahlan, or Zedd, or Adie, or his lil Sis. Richard makes Sword of Truth. Well the Rahl's do, isn't Nathan one of the best secondary characters ever, and Darken Rahl was always a cool vilian in my book. The Rahl's Rule

Richard is definetely lacking in the "Pillars of Creation", ok so let's say we needed to know that much about his little sister.
TG should have put Richard in at least more than 5 chapters of the book, I mean when the next book comes out, it'll have to wait until it's in paperback before I pick up...
Out of the entire book I think about 15 minutes worth of reading had Richard in it and even then it wasn't really informative.
What was TG thinking???????????

~~inside TG's mind~~
hmmm, lets annoy the hell out my loyal fan base and keep Richard to a minimum in this next book...yah that'll really piss em off. Hah! that'll show them to go out and buy my books which supports me and keeps food on my table.
Mmmmmm doughnuts.....

i read the first half then stopped, Damn that book sucked ass, i have just started re-reading the series again and Wizards first rule is one of the best first books i have read, it starts off the series well, is actually interesting (in parts) and has one of the coolest BDSM inspired badies ever the MORD SITH !!! there sooooo cool bit kinky but none the less cooooooool.
oh yeah i have serious doubts about TG sexually sanity, it seems the main charecters spend a lot of time being tied up or chained up or bound in some way, think there the mord sith, the sisters of light (aes sedai woohoo) for Richard the you have that bit where Kahlan is thrown into the big pit and the bit where here sister is thrown into the same pit, he is way to kinky. Wow this is a really huge post
