ok, first:

Based on the general assumption that Mat was freed from the horn during one of the times he died. The question is who will blow the horn for the Last Battle?

Here is my most likely candidate. Faile. The reason is simply that she was introduced into the story as a hunter for the horn. Obviously she backame one of the main characters when she maried Perrin, but why was it important for RJ to make her a hunter? She clearly had enough family power to make her an interesting character. She could have been introduced a lot of diferent ways to the same effect. But he tied her to the horn when she was first introduced.
There is one other part of her prensance in the story that makes this likely. Perrin will never accept her at his side in battle. Therefore, she has been reduced to Tonto's roll. "Go get help." "Yes Kimosabi" Now, do you think that Perrin will willingly let her ride into the TG with him? Not a fat chance. she will likely arive the way she did in the Two Rivers battle with a new army in tow & right at the last seconds to save the cast & crew.

The other offchance candidate I can see is Oliver. Now that RJ has lifted the Taint off of Saidin, there is no more immediate timeline for TG to take place. It would be a bit of Irony if Oliver is in fact Gaidal Cain that he would blow the horn & lead the rest of the heroes back into battle.

Man that's a big assumtion. I've never seen anything to even hint that Mat was freed from the horn. I mean technically he didn't even die. Balefire means that the action didn't happen. So he really didn't die anyway.

Well, he was hanged to death & Rand invented CPR & brought him back from life. Actually someone else came up with the "Is Mat still bound to the Horn?" theory. I was just expanding on it by trying to figure out who would be his successor.

but no-one suspects that Mat is NOT bound to the horn anymore.
They will assume he is the one to blow it, and he will, thus tieing himself to the horn again. Unless it falls into someone else's hands. And that's where it might become interesting, since we know Mat would be rid of the horn if he had his way.

I am one of those that believe fully that Mat is still tied to the horn - in fact, I believe that RJ has even confirmed this at some booksigning or another.

However, it is kind of interesting; What WILL Failes' role in the last battle be?? I've had the feeling for a long time that if any of the Big Three would die in the last batter, Perrin is it. Faile has talked often enough about Saldaen custom and said at one time that "I will pick up your sword". Now, that was fitting in the sceene it happend so it may mean nothing, but then again, I also feel that it MAY be a hint for the future.

Olver - What the heck can the little guy do?! I'm unsure here, but I am minded of when Sam slew one of The Nine in LotR. Little guy's can sometimes do great deeds:)

As for Oliver, remember that the last time the DO was freed, it took about 10 years before he was sealed away again... that gives Oliver plenty of time to grow up and also means that there will be several more books at least in the series... maybe around 10-15... hehe
